Andre Marriner - Man Utd vs Crystal Palace

It's become very lively at Old Trafford with Casemiro needlessly
getting involved and sent off for putting his hands around the
throat of Will Hughes, following handbags from a challenge by
Schlupp on Anthony.
VAR had correctly invited Marriner to review having analysed the
handbags.
Shockingly however, Marriner's blatent flailing arm which
floored Fernandes off the ball was not reviewed by VAR, despite
the commentator joking he would be getting a red from VAR!

Casemiro should be berating Antony for showboating in the first
place, then Schlupp came piling in which was the ultimate root
cause of the mass brawl.
Marriner had so much to look at there and it was messy.

First clear handball for the penalty.
Then secondly with the the incident, Marriner didn’t help
himself being 59 yards away and with no speed to get there.
Really should VAR have intervened? Did Casemiro do any worse
than Ayew on Fred? Not for me.

Just seen the highlights. Penalty correct VAR intervention.
Scuffle in the 2nd half. Does Schlupp deserve a red card for
throwing Antony into the hoardings? Up for debate. Casimeiro
cannot grab Hughes by the throat and is definitely a red card,
but in the SAME incident, ayew also grabs Fred by the neck. What
is the difference?
VAR at its most inconsistent again

I wonder if the referee, assistant and var will say they didnt
notice the Ayew incident, in which case he may be
retrospectively punished. There was def a lot going on but the
var should have picked out this transgression.
Good question ref Schlupp deserving a red card, was there
sufficient force? Pushing someone off the side on the pitch
which has a big drop at the side isnt the most sensible thing to
do.
Agreed Casemiro cannot do with his hands what he did, even
though i dont think he intended to hurt the opponent, more
trying to restrain him.

Silly from Schlupp for his incident. Scott Ledger could very
easily have been hurt as he tried to stop the brawl that
followed. Hope charges incoming for both teams, linesmans safety
shouldn't be pit at risk.

Agreed it was silly of Schlupp but Scott Ledger should not have
been trying to stop the brawl, getting involved in doing so is a
recipe for disaster when arms and fists are flying as its easy
to catch a stray unintentinal one. He was correct in checking to
see if the recipient of the shove by Schlupp wasnt seriously
injured. Things may have changed but i was taught to stand back
to a distance where i could observe and take actions as
necessary when things had quietened down. Wise words they were
after on one occasion i had sent a player off , that player
walking away behind me decided turnaround and throw a punch in
my direction which i managed to avoid, he spent a few years on
the sidelines.

Can't believe the (accidental) incident where Marriner poleaxed
Fernandes with a flailing elbow was edited out on MOTD. Would've
imagined it would be included if only for the mirth.

As is often the case, the whole flare up started when players
from both teams charged over to unnecessarily get involved. The
officials had seen it, given it and were dealing with it. The AR
was right there. ‘Failing to control players’ should be for
these incidents which are unseemly and completely unnecessary.
Man U also might want to do something about the actual OFR
equipment - Marriner had to practically kneel down to see the
screen which can’t be helpful!

I’ve noticed that before at Old Trafford, with Taylor and
Tierney both having a lean over to see it.
