Then this should apply across the board , all managers from prem
to grassroots must now be allowed to abuse officials because
they are frustrated and angry.

I'm struggling to place the two red cards Taylor supposedly
missed. Kompany (if you're of the persuasion) and which
other...?

I do not think for a single solitary second that Martin
Atkinson's manner was dismissive or arrogant. He just isn't that
sort of a person.

[quote author=Failed Ref link=topic=446.msg3759#msg3759
date=1546600207 I do wonder if Taylor was referring a less
important and non televised match (say at Cardiff!!) whether he
would have red carded the player?
Will the introduction of VAR allow these challenges to be
reviewed?

Interesting comment! I saw Taylor referee his previous game
which was in the championship. He did so in the “this is below
me” manner we sometimes see by SG1 referees, when in the EFL.
During the game he had no hesitation in showing a player a
second yellow for handiball, which the player had not a snowball
in hells chance of avoiding. Later in the game he evened the
numbers by issuing a justified red for a tackle which came
nowhere near the severity of the one by Kompany.

Not his best game but also not the worst some will have seen
this season. The Lovren yellow was spot on and I think the
Kompany challenge could of gone either way. I felt that Pep
should of been sent to the stands for his rant at Martin
Atkinson.
As previously said a decent game overall for the spectators.

Nonsense. All managers should be treated equally and having seen
my team's manager pick up a ludicrous yellow card at Southend
the other week, while Pep got away with what he did last night,
it's no wonder there are repeated accusations of favouritism and
'big clubs' being treated differently.

Of course they are treated differently. The PGMO is in the
pockets of the big Premier League clubs.

never ever a red, always a yelllw for breaking up a promising
attack. Yes he never really had a chance of playing the ball but
contact wasn’t that great and wasn’t dangerous or excessive
force.

isn’t full on and so I would always advocate a referee going
with a yellow if they aren’t 100% sure it’s a nailed on red
(which I don’t think this was). Had he landed the tackle
completely on Salah then I would say fair enough it ticks all
the boxes... but it didn’t. And so it doesn’t!

throughout.

Well it's all down to opinions but I would suggest the reason
that contact wasn't "full on" in the Kompany challenge was
because Salah tried to leap out of the way. It was Salah's
action that did that and in no way diminished the dangerous
nature of the challenge. Interesting that ex-players like
Shearer, Ian Wright and Robbie Savage who were all capable of
excessively robust and naughty tackles all felt Kompany was a
lucky boy and it should have been a RC. Hackett, while praising
Taylor's fitness and movement, also felt it was a clear RC
offence. I don't know whether Clattenburg and Gallagher have
expressed a view.
Agree that Lovren YC was correct and I'm certainly not
suggesting that overall Taylor was terrible. But if one
believes he missed a straight RC, plus the odd reservation about
foul detection for example and even game management, it tends to
put the performance in the 'reasonable' rather than the 'good'
category.
But as I say, it's just an opinion.
It was certainly an exciting game but not always top quality.
Was it just me or did the pitch look slightly heavy in places?
It just struck me that the ball held up sometimes causing some
passes to look under-hit.
Clattenburg has said it was a red card. A bit rich for him to
say after failing to send Kompany off twice!
Is this the same Clattenburg who failed to send off Rooney for a
vicious elbowing even after reviewing video evidence considered
it accidental? Or the same Hackett who was the most overrated
Ref if the 1980s? Not condoning Kompany but City has some
atrocious fouls against them last season which were weakly dealt
with, so a lot of it is swings and roundabouts
Interesting that nobody has yet mentioned that Kompany’s tackle
was Not as bad as it might have been because Salah was already
in the process of “tumbling over” to try and win himself a cheap
free kick (Not that it would cross his mind to do so normally of
course)

I was at the game, but haven’t seen any highlights yet. From my
viewpoint did fear the card Mr Taylor produced for the Kompany
challenge would be red and felt yellow was right for the Lovren
foul. It did seem that Mr Taylor let quite a lot go, which
others might have blown up for and from my, admittedly partisan,
perspective Liverpool appeared to get the rub of the green with
those calls. To be fair, that approach probably helped the
quality of the game. I can’t remember the incident which caused
Pep to lose his rag, which is unacceptable behaviour, regardless
of the cause. However would disagree that he’s in the same
league as the likes of Steve Evans, who are in the ear of the
fourth official all game.
