For me, with the benefit of replays, not a penalty.
Live and at full pace I get it.
Gillett, for me was, excellent, I'd not consider leaving him off
future games between the two teams because some fans have the
grumps

Out of interest who has the grumps & where has that been
expressed?

Not sure I agree with the Bournemouth manager saying Gillett’s
performance was as bad as the Play Off semi final in 2021. That
is quite wide of the mark, his performance in that game helped
him to cement his promotion to SG1.
By all means, vent your frustration on the game just gone, that
is all well and good, but to compare it to a game he did two
years ago is not on for me.
Mail Online gave Gillett a mark of 7.5? So not too bad then?!
Listen, I like this referee enormously but that doesn’t mean he
escapes warranted criticism, such as that VAR decision he gave
against West Ham at Chelsea earlier in the season. On field is
where his strengths lie. But that criticism by the aggrieved
manager is done with emotions running high and he will reflect
on that.
And also Gillett was excellent in the two Cup ties just gone at
Cardiff and Man. United. Everyone has an indifferent game, no
matter how usually good they are.
Just an opinion!

I haven't specifically said anyone had the grumps.
However post match reactions seem to indicate that grumps were
in evidence

As an AFCB fan of 21 lady years, I don't think his performance
was bad overall. He got 1 call very badly wrong and however you
look at it, it was a key match error. It's a 7.9 performance
because of it, probably an 8.3 without it. He got far more
decisions right than he did wrong and his performance was
nowhere near the worst on the pitch.
As I said above that is not why AFCB lost - they didn't turn up
yet and again and also that I think the bigger scandal is the
lack of a game plan and GON's tactics or lack thereof. I
sympathise with GON in respect of the decision but imo he's
simply deflecting away from his own lack of tactics & the fact
he is not up to the job. We're in the worst run we have had in
40 years, we are the only PL team not to have scored since the
PL returned after the WC - that's not down to a singular shocker
of a decision by the referee today, that is down to a coach who
is well out of his depth, who is as tactically inept as I am,
who has no game plan and a group of players who are simply not
turning up week upon week. Like Burnley in the cup game, Crystal
Palace a week or so ago, Brentford could have stayed in the
dressing room and AFCB still would not have scored - you don't
score goals when you have zero shots on target. I'd go as far to
say they would have managed to concede even without opposition
on the pitch.
Just as an aside I could end up with a hattrick of relegated
teams this season - AFCB are the worst I have ever seen them,
Újpest & Honvéd are performing no better in the NBI - roll on
that restarting in 2 weeks time! Thank goodness for FC DAC &
Sepsi!

I can see why he gave it, Senesi puts both arms round Toney, and
oncen that happens..... I guess the question is was there enough
there for VAR to overturn it. Its pretty soft at best.
My thought at the time is that it was naive for Senesi to grab
him, but now think there is perhaps a case to penalise the
intial hold by Toney. But then, every single VAR/penalty
decision or potential decision has gone against AFCB this
season, and this one was never going to be any different.
Perhaps the wording of the laws needs tidying up to outlaw
"clever" (Edited)tactics such as the one used by Toney last
night.

VAR might have got involved under the previous regime, but no
chance under Webb. He wants it to only be for absolute clangers
by officials, the sort where 100 referees would look at it and
immediately say the decision was wrong. This decision came
nowhere near reaching that bar.
