Robert Jones - Manchester City v Chelsea

Interesting first 30 minutes for Jones. First of all, Chelsea’s
Havertz left his foot in on a challenge in the Man City area and
was a little fortunate not to be cautioned.
Then Chelsea appealed for a foul, possible DOGSO, but there
didn’t seem to be any contact on the forward and this was
dismissed by Jones and VAR John Brooks.
A possible handball shout in the Chelsea area which Jones had a
reasonable view of but play continued while this was checked.
When the ball went dead, Robert Jones was recommended for an OFR
by John Brooks and it was pretty clear that Havertz handled the
ball. Good use of technology here and the correct decision
reached.
Jones does have presence and quality as a referee but I feel he
has been a little wishy washy so far. That early caution if he
deemed it so might have helped him control wise. Just an
opinion.

I agree with umperlan he has presence being 6’4 but he looks
really weak out there …. How Harvarz got away with that stamp
early without seeing yellow, then he allowed Chelsea players to
berate him fingers pointing at him without even a whistle and a
talking to ….. Good VAR use by John Brooks but again how does he
miss the handball it was so clear … 3/0 city so he might escape
criticism due to the score line but I do feel he looks out of
depth so far

Agreed he is 10 yards away from penalty incident, looking
straight at it. it’s one of the most blatant penalties of the
season. I’m sorry but if you can’t see that you shouldn’t be on
the FIFA list!
Not a lot else to do as city’s reserves dismantle the worst
Chelsea side in 30 years

Correct on the second penalty although Foden was certainly
looking for it. However, he really shouldn't have needed VAR for
the first penalty

If making mistakes barred you from fifa we wouldn’t have any
fifa officials from any country. Handball has always been easier
to pick out on tv than at full speed live so I wouldn’t want to
over critique for that alone.

I think Jones comes in for a fair bit of stick on RTR; I happen
to like his style of officiating. I thought he did perfectly OK
this afternoon. It was not as assured a performance as Gillett
in the Cardiff/Leeds match but fine for me. Perhaps he does need
to up his presence and profile a bit on the pitch. Authority is
an interesting concept, I become less and less sure that it can
be manufactured, in any form of public life, I believe it's a
natural attribute.
