A real mixed bag so far. N’didi lucky to avoid a card when he
challenged Mitrovic early on, and Bond blew up early when
Leicester had a clear 3 on 3 advantage.
7 yellows in total so far and some of the decisions are getting
both sides aggrieved.

I’m afraid it wasn’t a great game for Bond, too quick to the
whistle and some really puzzling decisions.
I don’t think we will see him in the PL anytime soon
unfortunately.

On that showing, Bond isn't good enough to step up. Too much
inconsistency in what merited a foul/free-kick, when to dish out
the yellow cards and when to play advantage.
The worst foul of the match, Ndidi's studs into the top of
Mitrovic's ankle avoided a yellow card altogether (it was almost
worth a SFP review) and similarly when Pereira was cleaned out
in the first half in a good attacking position, no card was
shown. Towards the end of the match, every foul was worthy of a
yellow card however.
Mitrovic was on the receiving end of the two worst decisions a
wrongly awarded throw in and a very soft yellow card with the
double whammy that he's now suspended against 'the other team in
Fulham'. (The C word is banned in my household).
What went from an enjoyable end to end fast moving match, ended
up a turgid affair interspersed with stoppages every few seconds
and I think Bond's management in part was to blame. Although it
felt like Fulham were on the raw end of the decisions, the
Leicester fans seemed to be equally unimpressed.

Unfortunately if that was Mr Bond’s audition, I doubt we’ll see
him in the premier league again, looked completely out of his
depth.
First half was okay, could argue he could have cautioned N’didi
for a foul through the back of Mitrovic and equally Palhinha for
a similar foul on Tielemans.
Second half was verging on shambolic. Started well with a
deserved caution for Tosin for delaying the restart, followed by
correct cautions for Palhinha and N’didi following let offs in
the first half. The game fell apart when he failed to play
advantage with Leicester 3 on 3 - one that was not difficult to
identify and required a delay of a fraction of a second on the
whistle. From then on he had very little match control.
Failed to deal with Fulham’s consistent (and justified from a
Fulham point of view) time wasting, Leno in particular was
allowed to take as long as he pleased until the obligatory 94th
minute yellow for a GK.
Mitrovic was finally cautioned in the 78th minute after a string
of fouls, most of which were followed by clear dissent which
went unpunished.
Also found it strange that he stopped play for every injury
rather than just head injuries, 4 times for Fulham, 1 for
Leicester.
Overall, the first half he showed potential but needs a rapid
improvement if he wants to referee in the premier league again.

I remember almost exactly the same things being said about Simon
Hooper on his PL debut and he hasn't turned out too badly.
Going up to a higher level is brought about through very good
performances at a lower level and the somewhat artificial
construct of a huge difference between the bottom of the
Premiership and top of the Championship has never really
convinced me. However, because it's an opportunity to go higher,
it perhaps brings a sense of nervousness knowing that one's
performance will be especially rigorously examined. I think
someone has to be given three or four matches at a higher level
to see if they are proper contenders for promotion. It may be
that Bond's natural level is as SG2 or he may in time become a
solid member of SG1. One thing is clear to me however, one match
is scant evidence to make that call.

Agree entirely that 1 match is an unfair assessment, but that
may not be how the PGMOL see it.
There were certainly promising elements in the first half, but
the second half very much felt like a rabbit in the headlights.
As you say, the only way to get over this is more game time.

Disappointing to hear of Bond’s performance being not up to
standard. But, without some very solid performances in the
Championship, he wouldn’t have got the opportunity. Most
referees, right from the inception of the Premier League, have
struggled when they have made the step up.
It’s much like players. A player may be decent enough at League
1/2, but struggle when he makes his Championship bow. It takes
time. Mr. Bond will be used sparingly in the top flight for the
rest of this season. It doesn’t make him a bad official, not in
the least, and he will be better for the experience, I’m sure.
I remember the likes of Webb, Poll, Clattenburg, Dean and
Atkinson not pulling up many trees when they started out, and
they had stellar careers in the top flight and overseas. We have
a habit in this country of writing off people after one
indifferent performance, in whatever walk of life. Darren Bond
will be back.

The most memorable thing about Webb starting his Premier League
career was that he started with 5 consecutive goalless draws
until Paul Ince scored in his 6th match ! The odds on that would
have been astronomical.
