Shocking appointment for Hooper from a travelling point of view.
Wiltshire to Newcastle on NYE must be a nightmare unless he's
celebrating NYE at the Bigg Market.

They are professional and aware they could be anywhere.
Taylor wont be going home and there are 5 referees who live in
the north based at Stockley park being VARs - my guess is they
celebrate together 😝

Blue/Green
Don't think AFCB have returned fro the WC break yet, not sure
our new owners are going to be impressed by what they have seen
in the last 2 games. At least there is eye candy in the
boardroom, nothing worth watching on the pitch!! Palace fully
deserved the win - better in every single way in the game.
Team ref were fine - one thrown in on 46 that should have been
AFCB not Palace but if that's all there is to complain about
then it's a good day out for the officials.

Even at semi-pro level you know you are going to have your
Christmas and New Year affected by refereeing. No overnight
stays, but you are going to be away from the family most of
Boxing Day and won't be going out on New Year's Eve. At SG1
level they are full time employees, they know the travel
expectations when they accept the position, and they know they
will spend a lot of time away from home. On the flip side, they
get a lot of time during the week to themselves that they can do
with as they please.

I was listening to commentary on the Newcastle v Leeds game on
R5L and it sounded as though Simon Hooper had a bit of a 'mare,
particularly in the closing stages. Is this correct?

I think Chris Waddle made a comment about “Hoops” not leaving
the centre circle for most of the match?
These summarisers do spew out a lot of drivel on match days.

A truly horrible game to referee with players falling over if
they lost the ball or someone came within touching distance.
Horrible conditions which did not help matters at all.
Lots of niggly fouls and little niggles after the ball had been
played.
Players wasting time and feigning head injuries and things
needlessly erupted very close to the end when several players
got involved in handbags, resulting in Leeds keeper and Bruno
Guimares being cautioned.
There were 8 cautions in all and I still maintain the theory
that many officials who were laid up during the World Cup have
lost match sharpness, this being Simon's second match in a few
days after a six and half week lay off.
