2 quality decisions at the Emirates - Burt giving offside after
it flicked the Arsenal player's ankle and Oliver's award of the
penalty to WH - excellent

Not a quality decision at the end of the half. Poor call and
seemed to play to the crowd shout. VAR correct

A very poor and uncharacteristic error from Michael Oliver and a
correct VAR intervention. This is where it works well

As Dermott commented on RefWatch, MO will have been very upset
with himself for getting that wrong.
Must admit, at first showing I thought it was a penalty. Perhaps
it was because I saw the defender's hands going up and what
seemed like genuine, immediate and convinced appeals by 3
Arsenal players.
Quite a contrast with the penalty given to West Ham when I
wasn't sure there was contact, but it turned out to be a
brilliant spot as the 2 pundits on RefWatch pointed out. Such
is life for a top referee.

With the speed the ball was travelling and the way the
defender's hand came up I can totally understand how Oliver got
that wrong. That is what VAR is there for, the definition of
clear and obvious error.

VAR that "jumped off the screen" at you

Do we think he's in a hotel in London from the time of his VAR
appt for the Leeds vs Man City game to the time he has to drive
up to Villa for the game vs Wolves, or would there be an
expectation of some form of training at their base in between
all of this?
