He's not an ex-professional by any chance? Howard Webb is quoted
as saying that he wants more involvement of ex-professionals at
the highest level, taking World Cup Final referee Markiniac as a
recent and successful example.

No, he's not.
Markiniac is not an ex-professional either. He played amateur
football to a not particularly high standard.

No problems with SG2 Andy Woolmer at Crewe Alex this afternoon.
In fairness, he didn't have a lot to do to keep control. Yellow
cards were correct and he had a useful turn of speed for one of
the oldest and smallest refs on the list. I wonder whether he
will be seen at Gresty Road again, but he can be pleased with
his performance this afternoon.

Northampton Town FC (First Team) v Leyton Orient FC (First Team)

Assistant Referee: Yates, Paul George, Michael

Fourth Official: Boyeson, Carl Vallance, James
A couple of strange incidents at Northampton. The first came
when O's Beckles had a goal disallowed for offside after what
was described as 'a long consultation between referee and AR'.
From the camera shot, it looked like a heated exchange rather
than consultation. Then in added time, Beckles was red carded
for an elbow near the penalty area. At first, referee Chris
Pollard gave yellow, but then, following consultation with the
ARs who had both come on to the pitch, he upgraded it to red. I
could understand why Pollard consulted the AR on the nearside,
but what the other AR could have seen from his position on the
halfway line which caused him to come on to the pitch, I simply
do not know. Smacked of VAR without Stockley Park and very
strange in my view.

Looks like correct decisions to the disallowed goal from the
free kick… Pete Walton comments on local Radio with explanation
to conclude the outcome and on EFL website Chris Foy does the
same… regardless the match official team delivered the correct
out come and responded to the actions of the Orient players
violent conduct as I understand it was a stamp after the initial
foul and caution awarded - I agree that potentially the out come
was discussed and correct action taken
