Liv Ars Oliver; rangers v. Celtic Beaton

Watched both these big games yesterday and both michael and John
provided a masterclass on how to referee a big game.
Calm authorititve and always in the right place at the right
time to give the correct decisions.
Outstanding performances from both!

I watched the old firm (Beaton) and the Edinburgh derby (Clancy)
and was at the Lanarkshire derby (Walsh) yesterday and thought
all three were superb.

I hadn't seen Beaton before but was very impressed. What is his
background/age? Does he have any prospects on the international
scene?
I thought Oliver generally did well although I thought Arsenal
should have had a penalty with the benefit of the replay.

If that was a UEFA game, Beaton would be suspended for some
matchdays for not red-carding some players.

Thank god it wasn’t and proper football was played compared to
the European rubbish.

I know UEFA have remained fairly consistent in their application
but it is hard to justify a plethora of red cards after the
"relaxed" World Cup. Mixed messages in my opinion

Morelos' two violent conducts and Brown's tackle were far from
'proper football'

That's an interesting comment because my perception of UEFA
referees in recent years have been that they have been
particularly lenient and generally more so than I have seen in
the Premier League.
I was going to make a comment about this on the PSG V Liverpool
discussion thread. Before Turpin showed a couple of red cards in
the last round of group stage fixtures, I'm struggling to
remember too many recent examples of referees showing straight
red cards for Serious Foul Play in UEFA competitions.

I was impressed with Beaton until later on in the game. Morelos
was somewhat fortunate to be still on the pitch at the end in my
opinion.
Personally I thought Oliver was very good and his positioning
and movement excellent. As for the Arsenal penalty claim, they
said on btsport there was sufficient contact, especially as the
Arsenal player was running at pace, and it should have been a
penalty. Maybe it should be specsavers for me, but having seen
the incident and full speed and slo-mo several times I was
struggling to see the contact but I was looking primarily at
feet.
I thought the 2 Liverpool penalties were justified and correct,
the second one looked clearer from a different camera angle and
Oliver had the better angle too.
