Women referees at Qatar WC

I need to be careful, I'm told, but one can't help wondering the
purpose of selecting three women referees if none have yet been
used on-field?
I know some male colleagues are yet to be appointed too
, but the further a tournament progresses, the harder it will be
to find a game. My view now is that if a women is appointed to
two sides who can't qualify it will be worse than not appointing
at all!
Tokenism? That's a view that could be held.
If the Rwandan, Japanese and French women referees were told,
pre tournament, to come and soak up the atmosphere,
but expect nothing more, then is that a message known, or do
they all still hope?
Or, being of an age where all three can be appointed to the next
WC, has that been the plan ?
I respectfully raise this in conversation, hoping others can
shed light ?
And, btw, this has been set in paragraphs. Why oh why it's been
amended to make it look like I've been kept back a couple of
years idk!

I think they were only appointed as support officials so only
likely to get 4th appointments

I think the intention was only for them to ever act as support
officials but with an added intention of normalising them being
there. Next time round no-one will even bat an eye over females
being included because it's been done before.

I think you're right. I had thought Frappert (at least) would
get a middle. but I'm beginning to wonder.

Maybe if there's a dead rubber game on MD3, she'll get a run
out?

Would Ma Ning's team have got a match if he had changed his name
to Pa Ning?

If some referees were intended only as support officials then I
think this should have been made clear pre-tournament. I think
from the way it was presented the general presumption was that
all 36 referees should be expected to referee at least one game.
There were certainly questions asked of Collina about the female
referees refereeing a game in the press conference and I think
it will look pretty bad if not a single one of them referees a
game.

It seems to have been a recent shift to not announcing who will
be support referees at FIFA tournaments, they previously did,
for example they announced the referee and assistant pair who
would be a support from a confederation for 2014. 2018 seemed to
be much more subtle, not declaring support officials, but
generally referees announced without two ARs in their trio (Jair
Marrufo the lone exception) not reffing games.
I suspected from the announcement when I saw two french refs
(Turpin and Frappart) and only two french ARs that this might be
the case and that they hid this in the announcement to avoid
scrutiny. There is an outside chance in one of the eight games
without a referee appointed yet we see Frappart as unlike
Yamashita and Mukansanga she has received far fewer fourth
official appointments and so may be being 'held back' so to
speak in case an opportunity (which for FIFA is probably a game
with absolutely nothing riding on it) arises.

Maybe I'm a little naive but surely all this adds up to
discrimination ?
