Jeremy Simpson - Burnley v Reading

In todays Observer it was noted that 'Ince rages at total joke
referee' - it goes on to say Ince described Simpson as 'a
joke,an absolutely total joke - I feel like I've been conned by
the referee today and thats what makes me angry'
It it likely that some kind of reprimand will made against Paul
Ince - surely he cannot make these kind of remarks and get away
with it

Based on Klopp's punishment last week, I'd say he will almost
certainly get away with it.

For context, Reading denied a clear penalty (admitted by the
Burnley manager) in the 92nd minute, Burnley score a 94th minute
winner. IMO Ince's frustration is justified, there have been so
many really bad decisions in the Championship this season, and
it seems like there is no accountability for referees. Simpson
is in my opinion one of the weakest SG2 referees, but seems to
come back week after week. Hope the PGMOL changes will bring
about some improvement, things cannot continue to go the way
they currently area.

Thank you for this - I must admit to not having checked out any
circimtances - but being rather 'old fashioned' in my views I
just do not iike to hear these sort of comments aired in public
about anyone

Based on Klopp's punishment last week, I'd say he will almost
certainly get away with it.
[/quote]based on the fact guardiola gets away with law breaking
on the touchline persistently I'd suggest klopps punishment was
proportional and Ince should get a warning. Personally I'd
rather see all managers wind their necks in and set a better
example but with that not soon on the horizon it would good to
see some consistent punishment from referees and the FA rather
than inconsistent wrist slapping we currently see.

.........unless they are true, which, given the referee was
Simpson, cannot be ruled out.

More context was that Ince failed to mention the stonewall
penalty that Burnley should also have had in the very early
stages of the first half when Burnley's centre back was wrestled
to the ground as a corner was coming across.
Decisions/non-decisions happen every week in every game, surely
Ince should be used to that. Perhaps he was doing a Jose by
taking focus away from the fact that Reading have only picked up
4 points from their last 6 games and have dropped from being in
4th place and just 3 points behind the leaders. In two of those
last six matches he has blamed the referee for his plight.
What puzzles me about that penalty incident is the fact that the
AR was the nearest to the incident and did not react at all as
far as I could see although the majority of Burnley fans thought
that they had got away with a poor challenge.

I wondered about the AR as well. However, JS was close to play
and allowed play to continue and it may be that the AR thought
better of waving his flag. Or maybe the 'comms' system was at
work. It seemed that the Burnley defender got the wrong side of
the Reading attacker and barged into his back. Whatever the
circumstances, it was a very poor and game-changing decision by
Jeremy and I can understand Ince's frustration.

Disagree with Ince and Kompany (pun also intended) - I don't
think this is a penalty at all :D. Attacker stops, changes his
direction at the last second deliberately in order to generate a
penalty, and falls over really easily/unnaturally. Look at how
much the Reading players don't really appeal/feel they've been
hard done by. Only when you see the slo-mos etc, "look there's
contact!!", do you create a missed penalty there. It is a
game-wide rather than Burnley-vs-Reading-specific issue, but as
I've said before, the increase in television replays etc. has
made 'the football community's' (including refs') foul
recognition actually worse in the ≈40yrs, it's madness...
EDIT: from what I've read, Ince's comments are in the
passionate-acceptable range, I disagree with him, and surely
better not to call the referee "a joke", but nothing stated was
too unreasonable or beyond the pale IMO.

This one was a quadrupal whammy for me. Firstly I have a strong
allegiance to Reading, who didn't only drop one point in
stoppage time but potentially three, secondly because I hate to
see a poor refereeing decision have such a strong contribution
to the result of a match, thirdly because I spent ten minutes
last weekend trying to tell a friend who supports Reading that
Championship referees aren't as bad as he thinks and fourthly
because I've stood up for Jeremy Simpson on this site before
because I believe he sometimes has been harshly treated,
I can't ever remember a decision before where both managers
agree and so do both teams keyboard warriors. That has to say a
lot. I still maintain that Simpson has been fine in most games
I've seen him referee but I think he and his AR will be
disappointed when he watches this incident back.
