Although the line should be drawn through the ball in this
situation, the still frame below suggests otherwise with Kane
appearing to be behind the ball (and, therefore, not in an
offside position, i.e. he's not nearer the opponents' goal line
than the ball when the ball is played) when it was headed
       towards him.

It's not quite all about angles, it's also about timing. This
image suggests the offside call is right but is this the instant
at which Emerson Royal headed the ball? It's impossible from
this image to know whether it was or whether this was just
before or just after contact was made.

I agree 100% with this part. Couple of great calls from Jan in
the first half in particular. Not humanly possible for Hessel or
Danny to be able to see the Kane off side in real time. It was a
correct call within the LOTG. Whether the LOTG are at fault is a
whole different debate - team ref got the call right within the
current LOTG and that's all we can ask of them.

For me it’s definitely offside and correctly awarded. But I’m
not convinced the images PROVING this to be the case, I.e. the
video and the stills provided on the night at the time, do this
       accurately.
Are we surprised players coaches and pundits don’t know the LOTG
       ??

If they had a proper SAOT in place, nobody would even discuss
       this decision, wouldn’t they…

The line gets drawn from the front of the ball, not the centre
       of it.
       [/quote]
Thanks for clarifying bmb. From the other photo with a more
side-on angle, it does seem that Kane was marginally offside.

Eric Dier should be absolutely ashamed of himself for standing
berating the referee and shouting it went backwards. A defender
earning around £100k a week and he doesn't know the offside law
that he has to encounter several times in every game. It would
be like a boiler engineer who has just blown up a house saying
that he doesn't know the gas regulations.
