M OLIVER - Fulham v Aston Villa

An easy contest to officiate so far for an official of the
calibre of Michael Oliver.
Hasn’t really had anything to do and has let both teams get on
with it without any fuss.
More of the same please!

Definite red card for a silly head butt on Mitrovic by Douglas
Luiz.
Utter stupidity and Oliver didn’t see it as he was carding Mings
for a foul. Good VAR spot.

Harsh handball for me. But the handball rule is now absolutely
ridiculous. Would have been given in europe though

But he didn't give the same decision against Gabriel for exact
same scenario.

It’s a silly rule. Cash certainly didn’t intend to handle the
shot however once Oliver blows up for it VAR won’t intervene.

Having been involved in the senior game for over 60 years, I now
have no certainty as to what constitutes handball.
I have to admit that that is only one of the Laws, or its
interpretation, that I no longer have any certainty about.
So pleased that I am just a spectator these days at all levels
of the game.

Another masterclass from Oliver tonight, he seems to breeze
through these games.
Sending off appeared to be behind Olivers back as he was
sanctioning another Villa player.
Good spot from VAR re nutter, pardon the pun, Douglas Luiz on
Mitrovic.
It seemed the main var screen wasnt working for Oliver to view
so he had to use a hand held device, didnt take long For red
card to follow the red mist.
Poor performance from Villa resulting in Gerrard being relieved
of his duties with the club

I too dislike the handball law or at least its interpretation.
Diving blocks are risky, open to arbitrary interpretation should
the ball hit your arm. Also, I noticed the lack of a yellow when
a Villa defender (I think as I was half asleep) hacked an
attacker on the wing. Like the rest of the world, football is
going along a very strange path at present.

It’s handball south of the Thames but not north of it
apparently.

I was quite surprised that they had a backup device available.
It seemed like exactly the sort of scenario that the authorities
would normally fail to plan for. For a brief moment I thought
Douglas Luiz was going to get away with it on the basis that VAR
wasn't available.
