As you can see in this video, the ball hits Gabriel's chest
before it hits his hand. This is the first time I noticed it.
I'm confused with the hand ball rules, does this prove that it
was a correct decision or should it still have been a penalty?

With the rules as they are nobody knows, depends what mood the
ref and var are in

Why should that matter as a clear deflection didn't count for an
OFR when United played Sociedad earlier this season?

Unfortunately on the Rashford goal we then get from Dale (and
not my bold type but his):
"This comes down to the deeper guidance around accidental
attacking handball, and the specific requirement that a player
"scores in the opponents' goal [B]immediately[/B] after the ball
has touched their hand/arm, even if accidental." It means there
can be an accidental handball by a striker before he scores, as
long as he doesn't score immediately."
Now the definition of immediately is "at once, instantly,
without having any time or space" so how on earth does
Rashford's fit that?
This rule change was to cover situations where a player had an
accidental handball and then with his next touch put the ball in
the net. Not scenarios where a player has to run twenty yards to
get into the box then has to take the ball round the goalkeeper
before finally putting it into the net.

It is comforting to read the comments relating to all these
incidents and to realise that, in spite of IFAB with all their
Law changes, officials doing their best to interpret them, the
opinions of pundits, managers, players and the use of VAR, we
are as far away from the 'perfect' game of football as we were,
even before VAR was ever thought of.
Long may it continue so that we can all still express our
opinons about a game that still gives so many people a release
from their everyday life.

Ref Fan ---no problem as far as I am concerned either way,
however thanks for clarifying lol. I never take anything
personally and consider myself fortunate that I am in a
situation that I can always be that way ----no matter what life
throws at me.

It's quite amusing to have people like Richard Keys complaining
about the decision regarding the first goal when they have
advocated a model where lines aren't used at all to judge
offside.
