Very much so.
Had one in Hungary on Friday where one of the lines was
virtually on the touch line - maybe about 1pixel of green
between the touchline & 1st line. Never seen one that close

To me one of the interesting things about PL games is how they
can vary in terms of difficulty for the referee. In some,
decisions can be relatively easy and in which players mainly
behave themselves. He can only referee what's in front of him
is the sort of comment we get in that type of game.
On the other hand, there are games where there are several
decisions that are more difficult and prove contentious
whichever way the referee decides. The game can become feisty
not necessarily due to the referee, and it needs firm control.
I thought today was one of those games. On the non-penalty for
Liverpool, it didn't seem to me that proximity or speed of the
ball or a deflection were factors. The arm didn't appear to be
in a natural position so without seeing more replays, I could
only think of where on the arm the ball actually struck him for
not awarding a penalty. If Oliver wasn't sure, VAR should have
advised an OFR. If all the requirements were met, I don't know
why he didn't intervene. What did surprise me was that any
dissent from Liverpool was fairly muted from what I saw.
The penalty to Arsenal looked correct to me.
There is some justification for comments of inconsistency in YCs
but again not mandatory cautions that were missed. An Arsenal
player in the first half might have been carded for a pull back
by the shoulder close to the touchline but it didn't really stop
a promising attack. Oliver might have been in two minds whether
to caution Fabinho shortly after he came on for a foul, and
when Fabinho kicked the ball away I was expecting the YC to come
out.
Another tricky one was the arm into the face of Jesus which
seemed to do him more harm than expected. I don't know what
view Oliver had of the incident but if VAR didn't deem it a RC
offence, no other action could be taken.
Even if you feel there were some mistakes, as Gary Neville
commented, as an experienced referee Olive remained calm when
things blew up. I thought he did well with the fracas after the
penalty award. Talking to Xhaka and Henderson as he did helped
to take some steam out of the situation. I know some want to
see strong action against coaches on the dug-out when things get
out of hand but I actually thought he handled it ok. By taking
so long to speak to them, it helped to reduce the temperature in
my view.
And I don't think there can be any complaints today for the time
Oliver added on, even after the initial 5 minutes announced.
Quite why Oliver is being asked to referee in the CL on Tuesday
after a big game today I've no idea. Is there no game on
Wednesday he could have been selected for?

Are you saying that Liverpool defender Joe Gomez was booked for
timewasting because Arsenal manager Arteta told him to do so ?

Seems a bit illogical.
From someone who in the past let my keyboard fingers run out of
control due to still being emotionally charged after my side
lost a game I urge you just to calm yourself down.

I must admit I find it quite amusing that bloke who supports a
team with Salah in the squad comes on here complaining about a
soft penalty!

On one occasion, I think during the World Cup Finals, a report
in South America ( Brazil quite possibly ) referred to Olive
Thomas instead of Clive Thomas. There were times when I think
Anna Karen's character Olive could have refereed much better
than Clive !

The Tuesday appointment would have been known 7-10 days ago. He
should not have been appointed to a Sunday game. Unfair on him
and goes against what FIFA recommends.

I thought Oliver managed a game which became pretty tetchy very
well.
However in the current climate, the handball penalty is given
ten times out of ten and whilst my personal view is that
referees (under the instruction of the powers that be) give far
too many penalties for handball, in the context of what we've
seen in the season up until now, that makes that a very poor
decision in my view.
Referees need a bit of leeway with yellow cards to manage a game
and I think what he did today was manage without them where he
could but had to settle the game down a bit. Nothing he did
went outwith what's acceptable in my opinion and I agree with
the Arsenal penalty. My team were denied a very similar one on
Saturday and a pundit up here said only the very best referees
would spot that with the naked eye. I think Oliver proved his
point entirely.

Some very strange comments on this thread… no need for me to
quote them, we can all see them.
There is no contention about offside for Arsenals first, if it
was offside they would have given it. End of.
The penalty given, whilst it falls into the ‘soft’ category, is
certainly not incorrect. Definitely no scoped for a VAR
reversal.
I did think the handball by Gabriel was a penalty. His arm was
clearly in an unnatural position, similar to the penalty given
against Dan Burn for Brentford. Having said that, the precedent
seems to change from week to week!
Certainly not a bad game from Oliver, although he has had
better.
