I thought the performance of Oliver was fine. The penalty is a
penalty and it’s good to see consistency for a change as similar
penalties have been awarded this season for the same challenge.
I can’t see any reason for complaints for the officiating this
afternoon.
I’m also glad some of the inflammatory posts have been removed
on here.
There is no place for such frankly preposterous comments.

For me the only real contentious decision was the potential
penalty handball by Gabriel. I personally think it should have
been a penalty as his arm was very high, even though the ball
travelled a very short distance before it hit him, but I'm
guessing they didn't deem it a clear and obvious error. The
penalty given was pretty clear, as were all of the cautions.

Wouldn't have said it better. I personally liked Oliver's
approach in the middle of the park, where he didn't fall for any
diving and rolling about and waved play on most of the time.

Are you saying that Liverpool defender Joe Gomez was booked for
timewasting because Arsenal manager Arteta told him to do so ?

Seems a bit illogical.
From someone who in the past let my keyboard fingers run out of
control due to still being emotionally charged after my side
lost a game I urge you just to calm yourself down.
I haven't seen the whole game yet and Michael Oliver may or may
not have been poor today but it all adds up into what makes the
game so beautiful and I bet there will have been an occasion in
the past when Liverpool have been the lucky ones when he has
reffed you.
I am no lover of Newcastle United at all but a few weeks ago did
you not score a 98th minute goal after Andre Marriner played
over the six minutes injury time ?

Well said, there was certainly plenty of that going on
throughout the game, mind you, there always is these days. It is
pathetic because they are just trying to gain unfair advantages.
I have another word for it but

One thing to say is the dreadful management from PGMOL and UEFA
with Oliver refereeing Sunday then Tuesday. Assume he will stay
in London tonight with his team and fly out to Paris tomorrow.
I don’t get why Pawson couldn’t referee today.

There is too much rolling round faking injury and trying and
succeeding in conning officials. None better than Fernandes who
managed it again.

The fact that he is refereeing in Europe on Tuesday is neither
here nor there as it had no impact on today's game. If he has a
nightmare in Paris on Tuesday then you might have a point, but
he would have been fresh today, and in any case didn't get
anything wrong if you look at it from a referee's perspective
rather than as a supporter who can hardly be described as
impartial.
I suspect PGMOL cleared it with UEFA on the basis the game is so
close. He's in London already, and it is quicker to get from
London to Paris by train (very few people fly from London to
Paris as it takes longer) than it is from London to Newcastle.
Bit of a non-story really.

If there's one thing we can say with some confidence about VAR,
it's if there's an offside they tend to find it.
A team wouldn't be made to play Sunday-Tuesday in PL and then CL
so I don't think a referee should be. But I agree it would
impact the Tuesday performance if anything and to suggest that
Pawson or whoever would have refereed better today is a bit of a
counter-factual.
