Geoff Eltringham

Geoff Eltringham is one of my favourite SG2 referees and Keith
Hackett even claimed last year he was ready for promotion to
SG1. However, I haven't seen him at all this year. Is he
injured?

I assume he's been injured. He's had games in the National
League and Papa Johns recently.

I have been across this thread amongst others and I can say
that whi!st Geoff is a friend it wasn't for me to comment.
Anyway conversing tonight I have mentioned how he has been
missed on RTR and then gave permission to share.
Geoff has indeed had a knee injury and is now on his way back.
The next step is League One and Two appointments.
On behalf of Geoff thank you for your concern and I will pass on
everyone's good wishes.

Having followed referee forr many years probably before most of
you were born I am sure back in the day hearing of ref injured
was quite rare. Do referees succumb to injury more now with the
pace of the game or it you just
. I'm also many of the refs I saw regularly wouldn't have a cat
in hells chance of passing a fitness test
the game or did you just hear about such things

Pretty sure it is just more that you didn't hear about it back
then with no social media. Although the training is much more
intense these days, and needs to be to keep up with the pace of
the modern game. Back in the 80s it wasn't uncommon to see top
level referees with beer bellies, that just doesn't happen now.
Some are a bit chunkier than others, but the overall fitness
levels are much higher.

No doubt they are fitter these days, however, I still would have
loved to see them coping with the Baseball Ground and White Hart
Lane in the seasonal mud ---and they are just two of many
grounds I could mention.
