Ha, ha. Only losing 6-3 flattered us!! I'd have put money on
the next goal had there been one being scored by City.

Oliver is now developing into one of the best referees this
country has seen in the last fifty years ( maybe from before
that but I don't remember that far back so can't properly
comment ). I believe he is approaching equal status with Jack
Taylor, George Courtney and, in the highest ascription of praise
I can bestow, perhaps getting very, very close to Joe Worrall.

You're in good company Hendo. Dermot also referred to it as a
Masterclass particularly praising the YC so early in the game.
There was some comment though about only 2 minutes being added
after the 90.

The Laws say:
Allowance is made by the referee in each half for all playing
time lost in that half through ... any significant delay to a
restart (e.g. goal celebrations).
So no mandatory 30 seconds per goal that the pundits are so keen
to tell us about.

Only if the delay is "significant", if it is "standard" and
everyone gets back in a normal time for kick off that wouldn't
necessarily be added.
I know some people don't like this, but very few, if any, senior
referees will add more than a token amount of added time if one
team has taken a hammering. The losing team certainly don't
want it, I've lost count of the number of times losing players
have asked me to blow up early. The winning team might if they
are chasing goal difference, but that view would change if
something happened in those added minutes, like someone getting
injured or sent off. And the risk of the former happens in
these types of games as no player likes getting a hammering, and
there are plenty of cases of them getting angry. Who does
everyone think would get the blame if Haaland had his leg broken
five minutes into stoppage time in a game that was 6-3? It
wouldn't be the player making the challenge, the referee would
inevitably get it in the neck for adding unnecessary added time.

I'd also point out that any potential goal difference issue come
the end of the season will have been affected much more by City
subbing off De Bruyne, Gündogan, Foden and Grealish at 6-1, than
an extra minute or two added time!

Mr J.B.Worrall was one of the best referees I have ever seen at
my beloved Roker Park Sunderland.
Never ever saw Mr Worrall have anything else than an excellent
gae

And the same goes for me when I watched Joe Worrall at Old
Trafford. I was a little surprised in those days when I first
saw his name on the match programme as he came from Warrington,
not all that many miles away but I wasn't sure what the policy
was then. It's different nowadays of course with the likes of
Anthony Taylor even closer to OT but he supports Altrincham.

Excellent from Oliver - great early yellow after 2 minutes.
Many other PL refs need to take note sometimes a early yellow
aids match control.
Other than that a really one sided derby.

A really interesting question. Howard Webb of course achieved
every major honour in the world of football refereeing and was
an outstanding practitioner. I don't think Michael Oliver has
quite attained the standard of Webb in his pomp yet but I think
he will and might well just slightly edge past him. Were Howard
Webb to have had a more felicitous World Cup Final then I might
be tempted to say that hardly anyone could eclipse him but I
think Michael Oliver might just do so.
It's hard to compare different eras and different styles but I
am quite clear that Oliver is already superior to Graham Poll
and will be considered the outstanding referee of his
generation, easily on a par with Courtney and Webb
