Probably the easiest match ever he’s had to officiate.
Only three cards all warranted and literally nothing else to do
aside from awarding the last minute penalty for a foul on
Martial.

Straightforward match for Michael, helped by the one sided
nature of the match. That being said, he did what he had to
well. Great to see the two big matches of the weekend refereed
extremely well by our two WC referees.

Should probably have been more than 2 minutes added in second
half - another reason for an independent timekeeper!

I always believed there are 2 things certain in life they are
death and taxes but there are now 4 things certain , death,
taxes and weekly debates on time keeping and VAR in the Premier
League 😉
On a serious note Oliver can only referee what is in front of
him , he let the game flow and stayed in the background

Even as a United supporter I was pleased to see Oliver caution
Dalot in the first minute. Players seem to expect to get away
with even a bad foul that early.
I thought the ARs, or was it the same AR, did well with a couple
of very tight offside decisions which were correct.
I agree, it was a good weekend for our 2 WC referees.

Excellent as usual from Oliver. He makes it look easy. Good
decisions and all the yellow cards, and it’s nice to see a
referee actually give a yellow card early and not just allow it
because it’s early.
Excellent decision making and no fuss. Players clearly respect
him.
Good to see him play on when Varane was lying down and Fernandes
was having a moan (as per usual!) rather than blow up.
He is just a class above the other referees bar Taylor (who he
is still better than)

You're in good company Hendo. Dermot also referred to it as a
Masterclass particularly praising the YC so early in the game.
There was some comment though about only 2 minutes being added
after the 90.
Can we just clarify - is time expected to be added for goals
scored, or only if there is excessive delay in the restart?
Same with subs.
Must admit I was expecting 4 minutes, but then United would be
relieved they couldn't be subjected to more punishment

The Laws say:
Allowance is made by the referee in each half for all playing
time lost in that half through ... any significant delay to a
restart (e.g. goal celebrations).
So no mandatory 30 seconds per goal that the pundits are so keen
to tell us about.
Saving United from more punishment? They had scored the
previous two goals. Surely they were cut off in their prime
when on a comeback ;).

Isn't that covered by "any significant delay to a restart (e.g.
goal celebrations)"?
