Sadly I won't be able to make it to Crewe Alex on Saturday to
see Rebecca Welch in action.

Listening to the radio, it sounded as though Peter Wright had
some bother at Hillsborough, Sheffield Wednesday v Ipswich. Any
thoughts?

He has the honour of being the card shark for the weekend… 8
yellows, 6 to Ipswich = fine from the FA.

It was 5 yellows for Ipswich when he refereed them at Rotherham
5 months ago.

All correct. Played a good advantage for Ipswich first goal.
Three times had to stop play for missiles thrown on pitch. A
testing afternoon in front of 26k crowd but he was ok.

I didn't get to Crewe Alex yesterday to see Rebecca Welch, but
it sounded as though she had a good game. But this from Crewe
Nub news:
Crawley boss Kevin Betsy was convinced Baker-Richardson should
not have been on the pitch by the time he struck the winner. The
frontman was booked in the first half for a late challenge and
Betsy felt referee Rebecca Welch should have been reaching for
the yellow card again in the second half, although he was not
specific about the incident. "The referee was excellent but I
think she made a big mistake as he (Baker-Richardson) should
have got sent off for a second booking," said the visiting
manager.
Good in my view that the Crawley manager said that RW was
excellent rather than just blaming her for the defeat based on
one non-specific incident.
My spy however was scathing of the AR on the nearside - a 'tall
gangly man' who I assume to be Hristo Karaivanov - and his
interpretation of the offside law, apparently flagging for
'offsides' which were never offside in a month of Sundays and
failing to pick up on fouls in his area of the field.

I thought during the first half she was inconsistent in her
recognition of offences which were for both sides, she did
improve in the second half, but would agree about the Assistant
Referee on the nearside he didn't want to make any decisions and
could have helped Rebecca with fouls near to him and has been
said his interpretation on/offside was poor. On her overall
performance she will have to improve considerably to get to the
next level, even thou she is a FIFA Referee in the women's game.

Talking of testing, the Assistant at the end for the late
equaliser needs to check on his next Specsavers appointment.
Clearly offside.
