HM Queen Elizabeth II

Such sad news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II this
afternoon.
She was the steadfast embodiment of what we all stand for in the
Commonwealth and a remarkable person whom led our nation for
over 70 years with distinction and aplomb.
RIP Ma’am 😢

She's reunited with her prince now. The heartbreak was too much
for her.
RIP Ma'am.

I was moved by the service in St Paul's this evening. I
appreciated the Scottish musical elements, particularly the
Peter Maxwell Davies piece taking me back to some very rainy
days in Stromness and the piper's lament which I found quite
haunting. Herbert Howells got a good innings with four items,
though not, sadly, his Nunc Dimittis where the Stanford version
(which I don't recall hearing before) was preferred.
Aside from the music I was struck by both the cosmopolitan
nature of the congregation and its youthfulness compared to most
congregations that I know.
Apart from the service one relatively small announcement
impressed me -that Brazil had declared three days of mourning
for the Queen. So far as I am aware there are no extra-special
ties between Brazil; and the UK and that they should honour her
in this way is a tribute to the contribution she has made to the
reputation of the UK around the world.
