       Brighton v Palace

The eagerly-awaited Brighton v Palace game on Sat 17th Sept has
been postponed due to a 'rail strike' that day (BBC). Seems very
odd to me, particularly as the recent Palace v Villa game was
also played on a strike day without incident. And will other PL
fixtures that day go the same way? Strange!

Brighton rely on public transport for access to the ground I
believe so that might be why. I read somewhere they'd have to
try and find 10's of thousands of park and ride spaces, which
could have been a purely sarcastic comment by someone or based
on fact. I don't know either way!

The obvious problem here is this rail strike won't be ending any
time soon, neither side is even close to budging so it could
last the duration of the season or longer. If they postpone
every time there is a home game they are going to have a
       significant fixture backlog.

I would imagine the fact they are hated local rivals might have
played a part in specific transport arrangements.

The only “en mass” way to get to the AMEX aside from the train
is the buses. With the main A27 dual carriageway literally
outside the ground it would cause absolute havoc and there are
no other walking options unless you trudge (illegally) on the
       carriageway itself.
The buses would not cope with 30k fans and the fan segregation
MUST happen otherwise there will be a riot.

There are car parks in the university complex but limited to
       750-1000 spaces.
The park and ride scheme is available but wouldn’t cope at all,
plus the A27 would be gridlocked.

Thanks for these responses. Point taken although rustyref's
comment correctly illustrates a potential problem for the
       future.

They are going to need an alternative solution, quite what that
       is I have no idea.

I don't think there was a viable alternate site. I know our
owner has looked for an alternate site for AFCB but there is
       simply nothing viable.
