Can you have Coote instead?
[/quote]
Very kind of you to offer TTFL but no thank you, I am more than
happy with the lineup as is, apart from as Claretman points out
Andr้ as 4O not VAR, which would have been awesome! Nothing
against James Bell but favouritism is favouritism and all that!

Interesting to see the very experienced trio of Pawson, Taylor
and Tierney all involved in West Ham v Newcastle after the
issues that befell both teams last weekend.

gradually introduce newer referees to games which are perhaps
less critical, mid table if you get my drift. Still important

games early this season, they should have had more in the latter
half of last.

Dean should not have had some of the games they did if a smooth
transition to the new season was to be made. Dean should have
had VAR games to get used to the technology. What do we have
now? Referees and VARs getting it wrong. It would have been
better if they had learnt their mistakes in some of Wolves games
last season when frankly no-one really gave a fig! And lessons

I don't really agree with the suggestion that newer referees
shouldn't be used for the first few months of the season. It
sounds like he did well in his first game so deserves a second.
In general, I'm not especially convinced that most games become
less important as the season goes on. You might eventually get
to the stage where there's some games that you can describe as
more mid table but I seem to remember towards the end of last
season it was pretty rare that happened because a lot of the top
half had some chance of 7th and Europa League and a lot of the
bottom half weren't fully safe from relegation until quite near
the end.

back on PL duty. As expected, the big game has gone to Michael
Oliver and deserved imo after his performance last Saturday. I
am happy to see Jarred Gillett as a referee and not a VAR this
weekend. The only appointment i don't agree with is Andy Madley
being appointed again.

If specifically referring to the West Ham disallowed goal, then
I think Gillett is the more responsible, especially in the
context of how PGMO seem to direct use of VAR where referees are
discouraged from sticking with their decision at the monitor. It
was Gillett who wrongly got involved in the first place and
Madley then seems to have followed general PGMO guidance. I
don't know how exactly you should incorporate that into the next
week's appointments, if at all, but I'm not sure it would be the
right framework if you essentially said the VARs who make the
errors should be appointed as referees but the referee shouldn't
be. You'd almost be creating a template where it was in a VAR's
interests to make a mistake, although it obviously wouldn't
manifest itself deliberately in that way.

Agree with this; SG2 and NL officials are thrown straight in at
the deep end, so why not SG1? What's the point of them being
there otherwise?

So basically you're saying the approach with the new SG1 members
last year is the correct one to follow, even though that
approach was widely and frequently criticised on this forum. I
think you're in a minority of one with that!!
