These are the first appointments since Liverpool V Newcastle
game so don't think we can read too much into that.
Good that Bramal has another game.
I guess the PGMO might struggle to justify punishing Madley too
heavily as it seems to be their general directive that they
largely expect referees to go with the VAR when an intervention
is made.

Why is Bramall doing another game?
My view is that the first dozen games of the season are critical
to the way the season pans out, team's confidence, self belief
etc. They are critical in how the season develops and so the
best experienced referees (and VARs) should get them. Those that
have used VAR, experienced big match occasions and being the
centre of attention. Thereafter during the season you can
gradually introduce newer referees to games which are perhaps
less critical, mid table if you get my drift. Still important
but after a dozen games you generally know which games are "big"
matches. While it is nice to see inexperienced referees get
games early this season, they should have had more in the latter
half of last.
Last season the PGMOL knew who was retiring at the end of the
season, knew who the VARs would be at the start of the next
season and rather than stick with the old guard, introduce all
the new or likely new referees gradually so that they do not
have to learn during the key part of the new season. Moss and
Dean should not have had some of the games they did if a smooth
transition to the new season was to be made. Dean should have
had VAR games to get used to the technology. What do we have
now? Referees and VARs getting it wrong. It would have been
better if they had learnt their mistakes in some of Wolves games
last season when frankly no-one really gave a fig! And lessons
learnt then, not know
Just my opinion I would add but I see parallels elsewhere in
life.

Overall a good set of appointments. Good to see Chris Kavanagh
back on PL duty. As expected, the big game has gone to Michael
Oliver and deserved imo after his performance last Saturday. I
am happy to see Jarred Gillett as a referee and not a VAR this
weekend. The only appointment i don't agree with is Andy Madley
being appointed again.
