A MADLEY - Watford v Cardiff

Haven't seen any match footage but Colin has had a big rant on
the BBC website suggesting Madley and I quote is a "Sunday
trainee referee" following a decision not to book Deeney for a
challenge.
Pretty strong words from the Cardiff boss.

Neal will likely be shot down on here, probably charged and
fined by the FA but I think he gets a tough deal , he’s one of
the few managers who actually understand the LOAF he rants but
it’s usually because he doesn’t tolerate incompetence, he has at
least taken , passed a referees course and refereed matches in
Cornwall . His complaints are always reported his praising of
officials which happens often is usually ignored . Didn’t see
the game so don’t know if he has a point or not but I bet he has
.

I would actually agree with you to an extent, I agree that he
often does have grounds for complaint and would agree that he
does probably have a better knowledge of the laws than most.
That said however I think if he has refereed matches himself
than he should perhaps have a little more empathy and
understanding than he sometimes shows in addition to that I do
think his constant haranguing is unprofessional and immature as
well as sometimes nasty like when he encouraged his players not
to shake Pawson's hand after a match a few years ago (happened
more than once I believe) that to me is totally unacceptable.
I haven't seen today's incident and I agree Nick that he may
well have a point but to describe Madley as a trainee referee
while not particularly offensive is juvenile and serves no real
purpose other than to demonstrate his somewhat spiteful manner.
Having said all of that - I did meet him once briefly a number
of years ago away from a football setting and found him to be an
absolute gentleman.

He hasn't passed a laws of the game exam, he passed the
mandatory laws test that you have to do as part of the FA
coaching courses. There is a big difference …
This is one of the biggest running myths in football that
Warnock is a qualified referee. Even if he had at one point
been a qualified referee before his coaching career took off,
that would have been almost 40 years ago so hardly relevant now
given that your qualification lapses after a couple of years.

In correct
Mr warnock lived for some time just 15 miles from myself he not
only took a referees course and passed he registered as a level
7 referee and refereed matches albeit only a few . No myth .
Unfortunately your entire post is factually incorrect

I’m not great with time lines lol but I’d guess around ten to
twenty years ago ? He lived near callington might well still
own that house , refereed in the. Local area . Will concede it’s
not recent and he probably has lapsed now , my point is a lot of
managers rants are from a position of ignorance he does however
have good knowledge of the laws .
All that said I agree with Dublin , his choice of language can
often be described as childish.

Warnock obviously doesn't approve of succession planning! Then
again, I suppose it's quite possible Cardiff won't be in the
Premier League next season even if Andy Madley is...
I don't think Warnock's comments were especially helpful. The
use of A Madley on the Premier League is well overdue and every
official has to start somewhere. As has been discussed, the same
old people can't keep going on forever.
The incident seemed much ado about nothing really - maybe it
should have been a yellow card but Madley's hardly the first to
fail to give one of those.

I entirely agree with Readingfan who sums it up perfectly.
Warnock grinding out the hoarse and battered old tune of " poor
little Cardiff", honestly it's pathetic and rather unworthy of
an intelligent man which I believe him to be. The "poor little
Cardiff" line might have some traction if they are playing Man
Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal but Watford ? a smaller club than
Cardiff and therefore a perfect match to give to a newbie PL
referee. Warnock moaning that Marriner was 4th rather than
referee. How does he expect referees to get to the level of
Marriner if they don't begin somewhere in the PL or would he
suggest throwing them straigh tin to a Manchester or North
London derby? Anyone but Cardiff I suppose. Such blinkered and
very flawed reasoning. Also his comments about Andy Madley being
a "Sunday morning trainee referee" are disgraceful and he should
be warned as to his future remarks.
As to the tackle. Certainly not a red card maybe a yellow.
