Really poor from him to blow up so quick for offside. If he had
let it run Villa would have gone 2-1 up.

A real pity that the Coutinho goal was chalked off.
However it was a poor error by Holmes in the first place to flag
when Coutinho was clearly onside.
Given the dross that happened earlier this afternoon, Hooper had
done really well and was hardly noticed.
Unfortunately Holmes has thrown him under a bus.

I can imagine Dermot Gallagher saying this on ref watch on
Monday regarding the chalked off couthino goal
This is a bad mistake by the assistant referee it was a rare
incident and the assistant referee clearly thought that couthino
had come back from a clear offside position and as he thought it
was so clear he raised his flag immediately and once that flag
is raised the referee is duty bound to blow his whistle for the
offside im sure they will both regret it and learn from this
error now that they will have seen it

Shocking from Holmes. That’s almost as bad as Hatzidakis missed
offside in Fulham vs Brighton. Just shocking, why didn’t he wait
to put the flag up? Think it’s championship for him next week.
On the other hand, Dan Robathan on the near side had a few tight
offside calls, kept the flag down then put it up, getting the
calls right.
Hooper was about the best referee of the day, which wasn’t hard.

Dear oh dear, just when we thought we might have one game
without an officiating farce today, Holmes and Hooper step up.
Being honest, he probably doesn’t score if Hooper doesn’t blow
his whistle as the City players had stopped… but it still looks
so poor.

Hooper really shouldn’t have blown the whistle when he did, he
should have waited as he could seen coutinho was about to shoot.

Egg on the faces of all the commentators who've complained about
the delayed flag/whistle over recent years. Hopefully a reminder
to them of why it is sometimes required.

Thought Hooper had an excellent game.
Poor decision for Holmes to flag for offside against Coutinho,
exacerbated by Hoopers quick whistle which to be fair is
understable however think both could Have held their responses
and relayed to var to check later if a goal had been scored.
Watching the replays the man city players had stopped and feel
certain Ederson would have saved the effort by Coutinho Had
Hooper not already blown. Learning curve for both and others on
sg1.
Holmes not the favourite assistant with the Villa fans, they
remember him being involved in two penalty decisions at The
etihad in his first season on the prem league line.
