A Madley/VAR - Chelsea v West Ham

What an absolute disgrace. Chelsea keeper mendy parries the ball
straight to a West Ham player and VAR calls Madley to the screen
for a foul by Bowen. Where is Bowen supposed to go??
This is the issue with VAR in England. Shouldn’t be getting
involved as there’s no foul but Madley doesn’t have the bottle
to stick to his decision. Our referees are scared of saying no!!

I cannot understand why Gillett has summoned Madley to the
screen….
Today is the first time we saw a VAR review thrown out by the on
field official with Oliver sticking to his decision after VAR
came in and sent him to the monitor.

Completely agree. Newcastle disallowed goal is even worse!(!!).

He drags his foot looking for a penalty and catches Mendy. By
leaving his foot in, the player knows exactly what he’s doing
there. It’s a foul.

Rubbish, Bowen's momentum takes him into the keeper. If anyone
is looking for a foul its Mendy. He was lucky to get away with a
free kick last week against Leicester!

Potentially one of the worst VAR decisions I’ve ever seen. How
two select group referees can look at that and decide it’s a
foul is beyond me. If Madley thought it was a foul he surely
would see it live, and if he didn’t, he has to be stronger and
stick to his original decision once he’s viewed it on the
monitor. So so poor.
Haven’t seen the incidents in the other games yet, but by all
accounts it sounds like an embarrassing day yet again.

I’ve only just seen the highlights of this and I have to agree
with the comments made. There doesn’t seem any contact made by
Bowen at all, so how Jarred Gillett has seen that there was
contact is extremely mystifying. What is even more mystifying is
that Andy Madley, a very competent and decent referee didn’t
stick with his original call and give the goal.
I have a theory about VAR. I think it should be like cricket,
where the challenging team have 15 seconds to challenge the
umpire’s verdict. In football, I think there should be a time
limit of 60 seconds from when the VAR is called for, and then
the on field referee should consider his verdict. If 60 seconds
elapses, the on field decision should stand. Simple.
We can’t be having three or four minutes over something that is,
in a lot of cases, subjective. This decision at Chelsea wasn’t
subjective, it was clear cut and a total brain fade by two
(usually) decent officials.
On field officials need to be stronger and say “Thank you for
your input, but I’m sticking with my original call”.
I didn’t agree with the implementation of VAR and I think it
should be binned.

Dreadful just dreadful. Both Gillett and Madkey have had a poor
start to the season really. This new let things go message is
causing chaos

My theory about VAR is stop trying to implement it differently
to the rest of Europe where coincidentally it seems to work so
much better!

That Is a horrendous by both Gillet and Madley, a contender for
the worse since VAR was introduced.
Now both David Moyes and Declan Rice may get pulled up for
comments In the media/social media etc but what punishment will
Madley and Gillet get for a embarrassing game changing decison?
The answer? Probably none.
