The inability of people here to actually get beyond various
crusades - goalkeepers are awarded too many soft freekicks and
we must stop it!!; diving and simulation isn't just sth for refs
to consequently punish, it is morally disgusting!!; et al. - and
properly analyse situations on their merits is quite jarring. I
respect contrary opinions, that is what forums like this are all
about(!), but people should really get beyond waving their badge
of honour by saying stuff like "I guess you’re of the opinion
that any touch on a goalkeeper should be a foul", it is a bit
cringey to read, at least from my perspective.

There have been many good crusades over time. I think diving and
simulation IS morally disgusting and the most serious blight on
our game. I and any right thinking person should be happy to
sign up for a crusade to rid the game of these evils. Oh ....
and it would make refereeing so much easier.

you could never controvert a penalty call due to Mings clear
holding, on the other, having a 'deeper' reading of the
situation, is obvious that the attacker's only intention was to
draw some kind of foul from the defender by stoping as he did...
I think I'd have played on but penalty is surely expected call
       by fans?

ball, you have to be an idiot not to realise this was
pre-planned (unfair!) tactic by Villa, another direct corner
kick goal; okay, I can understand arguing for no intervention
because not c&o for PGMOL, but to not think this is a clear foul
       is comical...

If someone thinks a referee is excellent then their opinion is
very much as valid as one giving a differing view even if they
are in the minority, constantly repeating an opinion does not
make it law or more valid than others nor does it mean that one
knows all , we here welcome all views as opinion because after
all opinion is all they are.

       Crusades? Really?
I find that people on here are extremely good at analysing
situations, especially when they don't involve their own team.
And goalkeepers are awarded too many soft free-kicks.

People are entitled to express their opinions however they like.
In my opinion it’s unnecessary to call the opinion of another
       ‘cringey’, but you may disagree.
For me, this incident is not a foul. But others will disagree
with me I’m sure and will have a generally lower level of
tolerance for what is and isn’t a foul on a goal keeper (or any
       other player for that matter).

Mikael I’m not sure how much you’ve seen of Jones over the
seasons, but to say he looks muscular now is very harsh. I think
this is the slimmest and fittest he’s ever looked (certainly he
was alot more muscular in his L1/L2 days). Some people have
bigger body shapes naturally, so size-shaming them when he
clearly has passed the fitness testing and body fat measurements
       seems unnecessary.
He’s clearly worked very hard at his fitness and personally i
would rather someone who works hard every day and is in solid
shape than someone who is overweight or lazy.
Regarding his actual refereeing performance on Wednesday I felt
he got the big calls absolutely correct in my humble opinion.
The penalty appeal on Saka was soft and theatrical from Saka.
The goal from the corner was again soft defending rather than a
foul anywhere. I also really liked the first caution and how he
got in very quickly to diffuse the situation after a very strong
reckless challenge by Ramsey which would have seen a reaction if
he didn’t act so quickly and get in.

It wasn't a foul. The referee didn't think so, VAR didn't think
so, and for what it is worth I didn't think so either. They
       were both grabbing each other.
How do you know he hasn't got much leadership charisma? Have
you met him or worked with him? I've watched a lot of
Championship football over the past few years and he and Andy
Madley have been the best two referees in that division by a
massive distance, so to say he wouldn't reach 2nd / 3rd division
in most European countries when he was the best in the best 2nd
tier division in the world is frankly laughable. It is also
very clear that the players like him, perhaps not so much yet in
the EPL as he is new, but I rarely saw him get any dissent in
       the EFL.
As for his size, he is enormous, not sure how tall but given
there was a photo with him towering over Andy Carroll I'd say at
least 6'4" or 6'5". He does look a bit ungainly when running,
and the amount of sideways running he does probably adds to
that, but he can't help being that tall. All PGMOL officials
regularly have their body fat percentage measured, and I would
hazard a guess his is close to elite athlete level, plus he of
course passes the fitness test like all the referees have.

First off I’m an Arsenal fan - and defo Villa goal was fine,
Ramsdale wrong side, so no problems.
Rob Jones allowed first half so much negative football to be
played. Constant fouling and barely a card shown, not even
management of incidents with big whistles and warnings of 1 more
       you’re in the book.
Easily he should of had 4/5 yellows first half.
       Foul detection was poor sadly.
I think Rob Jones could make a good referee but he needs to
start using his height and weight to his Advantage he should be
bullying games, instead of being bullied.
He needs to start trying to be everyone best friend, and get the
card out, show people what is not acceptable, with regular game
time will come experience and then potentially a decent ref will
       come out of it.
