Arsenal vs Aston Villa- Rob Jones and Darren England

I can’t for the life of me work out how that’s been given as a
goal. Watkins clearly has his arms round Ramsdale stopping him
getting to the ball.

For me, both players are grabbing each other and so thought goal
was correctly given. However, didn't think Robert Jones had the
best of games with his foul detection being quite inconsistent
and thought Arsenal should have had a pen in the 1st half when
Mings pulled Saka the floor.

No issues with the Villa goal, both players have arms on each
other. Ramsdale just happens to be the wrong side from his point
of view and isn’t strong enough to recover. Shouldn’t
automatically be a foul just because another players dares get
in the way of a keeper!
No penalty on Saka for me either, goes over far too easily and
theatrically.

The attacker is just standing his ground and there isn’t masses
of holding or pulling, so I’m fine with that being allowed by
VAR. Goalkeeper needs to be more commanding there.
For his overall performance I’d rate it firmly average. Failed
to get a grip on some persistent fouling by the away side
(Kamara in particular with 3 fouls in first half , including one
cynical trip) and thought foul detection was inconsistent at
times. The Saka incident for me is a foul but the theatrical
fall probably counted against him.
He still does look very new at this level , but maybe it’s no
surprise when he’s been asked to hold the boards more than being
out in the middle.

From watching highlights:
- early Saka penalty appeal is a tight one, on the one hand you
could never controvert a penalty call due to Mings clear
holding, on the other, having a 'deeper' reading of the
situation, is obvious that the attacker's only intention was to
draw some kind of foul from the defender by stoping as he did...
I think I'd have played on but penalty is surely expected call
by fans?
- such a clear foul on Ramsdale for the 1-1 goal!(!!) :D, what
on earth is fair about Kamara's actions, standing in front of
the goalkeeper, arms wrapped around him, not challenging for the
ball, you have to be an idiot not to realise this was
pre-planned (unfair!) tactic by Villa, another direct corner
kick goal; okay, I can understand arguing for no intervention
because not c&o for PGMOL, but to not think this is a clear foul
is comical...
As a general remark: Jones is a very poor referee (for
best-league-in-the-world level anyway) IMO. Very flat-footed
mover, as so many (too) muscular refs are, too poor decisions,
not even much leadership charisma. Another who wouldn't reach
2nd/3rd division in most European countries :).
(let's wait for GG comment about how Jones is actually
excellent... :P).

Why does Kamara need to challenge for the ball as the ball goes
into the net in front of him? When you talk about challenging
for the ball let's get shot of defenders "shepherding the ball
out of play" when they have no intention of playing or
challenging for the ball and in fact stop the attacking player
from challenging for the ball.

No, actually a WB comment maintaining that an opinion repeated
is still only an opinion and not a received truth.

It’s clearly pre-planned from Villa, but that doesn’t make it a
foul! Kamara had arms on Ramsdale, Ramsdale had arms on Kamara.
Both players are looking at the ball. It’s not Kamara’s
responsibility to move out of the way just because Ramsdale
wants to get around. If Arsenal have a defender marking Kamara,
this goal doesn’t happen, but they didn’t.
I guess you’re of the opinion that any touch on a goal keeper
should be a foul, whereas I disagree. Would you think it was a
foul if it was Kamara vs Gabriel for example?
IMO Jones is not a bad referee, but does look slow due to his
build (not saying he is slow). He also seems to have an
unhelpful knack of finding himself in the way a lot.

I'm an arsenal fan, and I think that their goal isn't a foul as
he just stands there, yes there's a bit of arms but that's from
both parties, Ramsdale just has to be stronger.

Pretty much the exact same foul was given against Barnes on
Mendy at the weekend, which is frustrating in terms of
inconsistency.
