Overturned on OFR and Gillett pulls out the wrong card while
overturning it and that sums up his day really.
Shame as I like him as a ref but he has not had a good day

I think Bankes has got that wrong.. that’s a red in my view for
Serious foul play. It’s a knee high challenge with no attempt to
win the ball. Gillett has to be stronger and stand by his
decision IMO

Rodri does that 10 times every game including this one without a
card

Agree with most posters. Not been great but hasn’t been bad
either. The inconsistency is what has let him down on both fouls
and yellow cards.
Never a red card for trippier went off the reaction of de bruyne
and not what he’d seen

I’m both surprised that he gave that a red and surprised var
overturned it.
I do think that the laws of the game should change so that
cynically taking out a player with no intent to play the ball
should be a red card

I think the trippier incident sums up his performance, very
quick to punish Newcastle, reluctant to do the same with city,I’m
very very disappointed with Jared because everything I’ve seen
from him until today has been outstanding, hopefully it’s just
an off day .

Every time a Man City player appeals it’s a freekick for them.
If he applied the same rules Rodri would be having a shower

Whilst I believe Rodri should have been cautioned, and does seem
to get away with more than most. I haven’t seen any knee-high
challenges from him this game, let alone 10! Do you have any
clips, would be interesting to compare the challenges to the
Trippier one?
The Trippier one is interesting, I think 99/100 would caution
for that. But once he went red, I don’t think it should be
overturned. As mentioned above, knee-high and arguably very
dangerous when taking into account De Bruyne’s running speed.
Hit and miss from Gillet, but by no means a poor performance.

Not a red card for me, so VAR correct to direct Jarred to the
monitor. If Jarred saw Trippier going in knee height, I can
understand the initial red card, but I think yellow is a better
decision. That said, I see Jamie Carragher is arguing that
should be a red card on Twitter.
I do think he's been quite inconsistent, and has fallen for some
of City's antics - he certainly isn't the first one to have done
so, but I'm confident he'll reflect and come back stronger.
With 20 fixtures in the next round of appointments, he's likely
to get a chance to get back out there and improve next time.
While it's not been anywhere near his best, and I suspect he'll
be disappointed, I've seen much worse from more senior referees
than Jarred. I still think Jarred will be one of our big game
referees in the coming seasons.

Thinking of VAR protocol on the Trippier red, can only assume
Gillett mentioned something about contact (e.g. studs on knee or
leg) to Bankes which allowed Bankes to come in and suggest the
review. it ticked a lot of boxes for SFP in my opinion. If only
we could hear the audio…
