       I asked the same question last year re Crewe v Wigan. Policing,
       security, hospitality ..... all of which have to be put in place
       well in advance of each fixture, make the simple reversal of a
       fixture a non-starter.

       Yeah, that's the reason why FA Cup replays went from being the
       next Tuesday / Wednesday to the following week.  You can't
       arrange a modern day professional game of football in just two
       or three days.

       Well you can, as has been shown on a number of occasions when
       the fixture list demands and all parties buy into it.  Where
       there's a will there's a way.  Pertinently the converse is also
       true.

       But it isn't a football decision, you'd have to get the local
       authority and police to agree.  In some cases it can't happen at
       all, for example Man City and Man Utd, Arsenal and Spurs,
       Wednesday and United, etc, can't be at home on the same day and
       even the same weekend is discouraged.  I doubt Wigan have the
       same issue unless paired with Bolton or Preston, but it goes way
       beyond football.
