Unfortunately another inconsistent performance from Mr Tierney.
On the KMI . The handball appeal, correct no penalty, I’m not
even sure it struck his arm. Penalty to Burnley correct. Red
card to Lowton. Tierney was very quick with the red card. I feel
it should be overturned but we all know it won’t. He is on the
floor , made contact with the ball and then the playrr. Slightly
excessive in force but a YC for me not a red. If we look at the
fouls in the game and there were many, again he was
inconsistent. Finally, how on earth, did the elbow from Barnes
on Mings not produce a red card. That was a dangerous challenge
and imho a deliberate elbow. Overall another poor day at the
office, he seems to have lost his confidence.

I only saw some of the game but from what I saw, I agree with
the Burnley penalty and the sending off. However, I was
surprised the foul throw which preceded the move leading to
Villa's equaliser wasn't seen by the AR who was nearby at the
time. From the TV picture, he seemed to be looking at the
intended recipient of the throw rather than watching the thrower
to ensure it was taken correctly. I assume foul throws are not
within the VAR's remit when checking a goal.

Quite surprised at the level of opposition to the red card.
The level of force is definitely high and the attempt at
recovery would have had alarm bells ringing for every referee at
any level. Lowton’s foot does stay relatively low which is where
any justifiable doubt stems from. The camera angles are poor,
but the point of contact is definitely not solely on the Villa
player’s boot.
A yellow could just about have been justified, but red was not
objectively wrong. VAR isn’t ever going to overturn that.
Equally, I don’t think it would have advised a review of yellow
had been the sanction.

Foul throw ins that go unpunished are a regular occurence
nowadays in football.
