Nottingham Forest vs. Sheffield United, Michael Oliver

Waiting for the many disagree button replies, but that was a
ridiculous performance by one of our best referees in the 1H. It
is understandably that he doesn't want to be liberal with yellow
cards, but the amount of simply not (even) managed reckless
and/or confrontation incidents was unbelievable. He was not at
all in control of the players actions, exactly the kind of
circus UEFA demanded that their referees produce in their club
knockout stage. If Cooper had let his players enter the tunnel
the same time as the Sheffield United players, I am sure there
would have been a fight, no question. I hope the 2H is
officiated differently!

Not watching Mikael but if you have any clips that would be
appreciated.

Frankly puzzled that Michael got the appointment. There is a
tranche of officials that would really have benefited from this
appointment but seemingly not considered worthy. How are we
expected to really develop talent when our top referee gets the
call. This just reinforces that there is a two class system ( at
least). If I were one of the tranche I have in mind I would feel
like a second class citizen. Perhaps the appointment gives us an
insight into what the mindset is of those responsible for the
appointments.

What a joy to watch a football match without the sterility which
abounnds in the Premier League.
Tackles allowed, officials not conned by the current trend of
players falling about all over the place. Heckingbottom acts
like an idiot after the Forest player made no real attemot to
catch a ball thrown to him for a throw in. All hell breaks
loose, referee could have booked everyone involved but used
common sense and booked Heckingbottom.
If common sense had not prevailed it could easily have been a
card fest. however, MO used his noggin and it all got sorted.
Now for extra time.

More concerned the first goal wasn’t seen as offside. Sheff Utd
player clearly in line of site when stood offside

Don’t know what you’ve been watching. I think he’s been as usual
excellent. Allowed the game to flow, stepped up when needed, not
resorted to cards when he could have done, no KMI’s incredible
fitness considering he had a big game on Sunday. Agree with
ashington46.
Can see why some would want a different ref on it but I think
it’s the correct appointment!

Think you meant big game on Sunday. My concern is for Dan Cook
his assistant who did 120 mins on Saturday, 120 today and has
another game on Thursday, surely someone else should be
appointed instead

Two Forest players on or over the goal line after trying to stop
the cross. He was well onside, even though he was in the line of
sight.
Was a good game to watch and Sheffield UNited will be kicking
themselves. The silly shennanigans towards teh end of the first
half really put Forest off their game in the second half. The
Blades had plenty of chances but didn't take them.
Well done to Forest and their keeper who triumphed in the
penalty shoot out. As a neutral, that was a good watch.

It's always easy to find fault if you look for it but MO's
presence and unflustered demeanour contributed to a very good
game of football. Players obviously respected him as there was
no feigning of injuries or questionning of decisions. That is
why the best referees get such games.

There was one foul in the first half that could well have been a
YC rather than just a word from Oliver but I didn't sense from
the tv coverage that things could get out of hand. Can't blame
the referee for that silly action on the touchline which led to
a lot of pushing and shoving but was really just handbags. I
didn't see any punches thrown.
The second half went without any notable incident - the usual
tugging by both attackers and defenders a couple of times from
corners and the YCs were all correct.
Considering what was at stake, I felt it was a perfectly decent
performance by the officials. It just didn't strike me as a game
which needed yellow cards flashed around in that first half.
