Responsible and sensible approach. Personal safety comes first.

Yes, the headbutt on Billy Sharp during last night’s pitch
invasion at Forest certainly highlights that.

Didn't apply at Huddersfield, but I remember a game where the
ref clearly told the goalie to belt a goal kick as close to the
tunnel as he could make it and then 'get the hell out of it'. It
worked although the ball ended up in the stand and is probably
now sitting on someone's mantlepiece!

I remember an Anglo Scottish Cup tie between Burnley and Celtic
which had been interrupted by numerous pitch invasions and
fighting in the 1970's. The word had obviously gone round that
the next time there was a free kick/ corner at the Cricket Field
End where the dressing rooms are the game would end. As the
corner was waiting to be taken both linos and Alan Stevenson,
the Burnley keeper were well on their way off the pitch. Pat
Partridge was the ref.

That was in 1978 when Burnley's Steve Kindon scored and a pitch
invasion followed, which quickly accelerated into a full-blown
riot; missiles in the form of bottles, cans and pieces of
concrete ripped up from the terracing were thrown, even the
metal fences with spiked ends, which notionally separated the
two sets of supporters, were being uprooted and hurled. The
players and officials ran off to the sanctuary of the changing
rooms and eventually some order was restored after Billy
McNeill, the Celtic manager pleaded with fans to leave the
field.
I have been involved playing, officiating and watching football
in many countries, however, I can honestly say that I have never
been as scared as I was that night because the problems
continued into the local streets after the match.

I agree. It was the most scared I've ever been before, during or
after a match. A friend of mine somehow managed to get a ticket
for the return although I believe Burnley fans were banned (or
the club had decided it didn't want it's supporters there). He
said he had never been as quiet at a match in his life even
though Burnley won.
