Football Commentators and Pundits
DIR By: Bielsa’s Bucket

Doubt I’m in the minority here but I’m absolutely fed up of
decisions being given correctly by the officials and the
commentators and pundits not having a clue what the laws are.
Foden pulled back by Casemiro but advantage played by Orsato
who’s having a good game as usual, but obviously a spa can’t be
a caution when advantage is played now and has been this way for
a few seasons. It infuriates me when these so called experts on
tv are just saying things that just aren’t correct in law. It
should be compulsory for all pundits and commentators to pass a
LOTG exam every season before being allowed on tv to spout their
usual drivel.

While I agree with your general point, could someone explain why
that 'scissors' challenge on de Bruyne early on, and which led
to the fracas, wasn't a YC?
That wasn't clever refereeing in my view.

In Hungary it is! Whatever sport they are commentating on,
waterpolo, football, handball etc they have to demonstrate full
knowledge on the rules/laws of that sport or they don't get jobs
with M4, the national sports channel. They all also speak 2 or
more languages fluently and will interview and translate those
interviews at the same time! They praise positioning,
advantages, man management, explain 'controversial' but correct
decisions within the law, call players out for diving, tell them
to shut up if they are giving it the backchat, errors get a
mention as a matter of fact and then they move straight on. No
half time analysis of what the ref got wrong, they'll talk about
poor or good tactics, good set pieces, player behaviour and any
exceptional or poor ref calls as just a part of it. Over the
summer someone from the MLSZ JB (FA ref dept) will hold a
seminar with the M4 staff and talk them through the LOTG
changes. Completely different world and I love it.

You are of course correct, but that shirt pull was particularly
egregious. It could have easily justified a yellow for
unsporting conduct by how completely cynical and deliberate it
was.
The pundits are even worse on Scottish TV. But yes, in what
other walk of life could you be an ‘expert’ and know the rules
and regulations of your industry so poorly?
Actually, with our politicians…

It's an easy answer ----just turn the sound off and listen to
some great vinyl.
Real Madrd v Manchester City tonight aided and abetted by some
great Earth, Wind and Fire tracks and saw City throw away a
place in the final without any comments from anyone. Smashing
night, apart from the result because I always support English
teams in Europe.

Not impressed by a referee who only added 3 minutes at the end
of 120 and then blows 10 seconds before the minimum 3 minutes.
I was expecting a minimum of 5 minutes for all the delays,
injuries, substitutions and time wasting.
Football can be a cruel game. City so close to going 2-0 up on
the night and then concede twice in added time after the 90.

Totally agree but its not just laws that have changed in the
last couple of years. Plenty of commentators and pundits still
think you cant take an offside free kick in the opposition half
and that change happened 7? years ago.

Strange performance by the referee, strange decisions,
inconsistent with sanctions, strange timekeeping, really looked
as he was struggling in extra time himself which may be
understandable after a lay off.
Strange substitutions by man city manager.
Enthralling game for us neutrals.
Harsh on city but they only have themselves to blame being so
near but yet so far.
Commentators and pundits are a strange breed.

Manchester City have only themselves to blame for snatching
defeat from the jaws of victory. Orsato gave a very strange and
somewhat unconvincing performance; he looked slightly off the
pace to my eyes and his sanctions awarded for fouls seemed
extremely random. Between his officiating this evening and
Makkelie's yesterday there is a rather large gulf and most
certainly in Makkelie's favour.
For the Final looks like being Turpin on home turf.

Pundits are infuriating for sure but Orsato has not covered him
self in glory this evening unfortunately. Inconsistent foul
detection and clear mandatory YC’s not given with good tackles
cautioned late on. Stoppage time seemed short at the end and
then blew early……. On that note……. Orsato was limping towards
the end of ET and at around 121 seemed to develop cramp in his
right leg. He could be seen trying to stretch off in camera and
was clearly adjusting position to compensate. I wonder if this
played a part in the stoppage time allocation.
Fair play to Real Madrid and City though in providing one of the
best SF 2 legs I can remeber.
