My thoughts indeed. Marriner really is a safe pair of hands, I
really don’t remember many howlers other than OX and Gibbs

But if you keep giving those types of games to the "old guard"
the current crop dont get any better. Attwell is an experienced
FIFA referee (and yes the value of the white badge is a whole
other issue) so needs games like this to ensure his next PL
       derby match is an improvement.
Andre is a great referee, has done very well with his time on
       PL. One more season?

With the retirement of Dean, Atkinson and Moss some of the next
cohort down have got to step up to these high profile fixtures
or else Taylor and Oliver will be run ragged. PGMOL are clearly
looking to Pawson, Kavanagh, Attwell and Tierney to fulfil these
expectations. Pawson is certainly a safe pair of hands now for a
game of great magnitude. Kavanagh has huge potential which
perhaps is taking slightly longer to be realised than at first
hoped. Attwell and Tierney, both good referees, are never, in my
view, going to come close to Taylor, Oliver or Marriner.
Looking towards the future I think Gillett and England might be
the next top performers and, who knows, Brooks, Harrington and
Salisbury may yet prove themselves to have what it takes to get
to the top of SG1 though the evidence for that isn't yet
compelling at this stage. However it is very early days for them
in SG1 and they are being started very gently at this level. Not
really sure where Jones is, no real sign of a stellar career
being developed and I think Bankes and A Madley will be
entrusted with more and more high profile matches.
A dark horse at this stage is Josh Smith. I wouldn't be in the
least bit surprised to see him promoted to SG1 for next season
and he may well quite quickly overtake some in that group who
       got there before him.

       Another thoughtful post from Whistleblower.
I would also add that the potential in the NL needs to be
prioritised, particularly Barrott who seems to be on a stellar
       path.
