I assume Darren England was too busy taking the half time tea
orders to not see Mane twice apply a hand to the facial area of
       an opponent.

Implication a little close to an accusation…!
Was the contact above negligible and definitely to the face? VAR
       won’t get involved if it’s only a cautionable offence…

I was always told in several sports (Rugby Union namely amongst
them) the moment you stick a finger near the eye area of an
       opponent - then you’re gone.
And that’s even after open palming someone else in the face

It somewhat goes without saying that football isn’t rugby, and
       rugby isn’t football.
I haven’t seen the incident, and you haven’t described it, but
       contact has to be non-negligible.
Admittedly, ‘negligible’ force (Law 12) isn’t a particularly
useful term and different FAs provide guidance in different
ways. But a light slap in the face is unlikely to be a red card
offence, which I’d suggest is correct for the game, and would
also be the same in rugby.

A very hard game for Attwell. Think he did ok, not sure how
Richarlison wasn’t booked for falling over for no reason at
least twice. Doucoure lucky not to see red as well. This need a
rule change. Just about got the Gordon and matip situation right
In the mane incident there where about 5 offences from both
teams, yellow is right for mane I think as allan did very
similar on Jota. Allan also appeared to run into the ref and was
lucky not to get yellow for that

How’s Richarlison not sent off for violent conduct after
deliberately stepping on Henderson’s shin? I don’t get it.

I think Mane has gone to poke him in the eye but misjudged it
and ended up more sticking his finger up his nose. Bit of a
push to say that used excessive force or brutality I'd say.
Likewise, on the Richarlison incident his foot was already
touching Henderson's leg, he has then pushed it away causing him
to fall over. Not sure there is enough there for SFP.

I'm not sure it helped Stuart Attwell when he failed to award
Everton a free kick just wide of the Liverpool area when Gordon
was pushed in the back by Alexander-Arnold earlier in the first
half. Then in the second half, Everton felt they should have
had a penalty for a shove on the same player. Even Carragher
acknowledged Liverpool were lucky and I think it was he who said
it was 'stonewall'. For me, it could have been considered clear
and obvious, but frankly I'm confused as to just how high the
bar is set. Of course, in another incident earlier, Gordon was
correctly cautioned for a pathetic dive.
On another day, Richarlison and Mane might not have finished the
       game on the pitch.
It was a difficult game for Attwell and I felt he looked
flustered at the end of the first half. In the second half he
       was more assured I thought.
Not sure what to make of his performance overall. Expected
       level maybe?

I never thought the referee was in control of that game.

A great start to the game for Attwell when rightly cautioning
Gordon for diving… Richardlison started the theatrics then and
Attwell loses control… rightly booked Mane for the clash with
Holgate but he should have been booked as well..
Gordon should have had a penalty for the challenge with Matip
and you could see Attwell wondering what to do… how VAR hasn’t
spotted the red for Richardilson for the challenge on Henderson
       is mind boggling..
Poor day at the office for the officials overall.
