FIFA do seem to enjoy giving cup final appointments to officials
from the host country - I remember Clattenburg getting 2012
Olympics final even though his performances during that
tournament weren't at his usual standard.

I'm not entirely against the idea and, in fairness, Clatts had a
great game at Wembley (I was there), certainly far better than
he did when he returned to the stadium for the 2016 FA Cup
Final.

If this is correct, I am surprised and frankly concerned, as it
means that our two English reps would have been reliant on the
performance of referees from other countries if they were to
advance to the KO stage of the competition. Did they work as a
team before the Finals? Strikes me that otherwise, it was a
matter of luck rather than performance that determined
advancement, with the Irish AR hitting the jackpot on this
occasion.

Yes they were teamed up for Champions League matches and
qualifiers i believe
The Swiss lady Staubli is quite experienced so Sian should have
had a decent chance of more games but was not to be.
Hopefully the likes of Rebecca Welch will be up there in years
to come
