Leigh Doughty on Fulham v Preston is bizarre. Leigh is from
Freckleton which is a suburb of Preston. Now I know the postcode
debate has been done to death on here, but it normally involves
Taylor or Kavanagh and the Manchester teams. Manchester is a
massive city with lots of football clubs in and around it.
Preston is a one club city. Without doubt lots of Leigh’s
family, friends, neighbours, acquaintances in his local pub/cafe
will be Preston fans. I’m not in any way casting aspersions
about Leigh’s integrity, but for me, the league are placing
untold extra pressure on his shoulders here. There’s enough SG2
refs to not place him in such a position. Personally I think
it’s madness.
Again, apologies for the same old boring debate, but this one
just seems to be a step too far. I haven’t gone to the bother of
checking whether Leigh has reffed Preston before, perhaps he
has.
But I just truly believe refs are under enough scrutiny and
pressure these days without the appointment chiefs adding to it.

So Robinson’s reward for a diabolical performance at Swansea at
the weekend is a top of the table clash live on Sky! Absolutely
no accountability whatsoever.

Can’t think why you are upset. You keeper could have been sent
off and the last incident there was a foul on Cabango before the
tussle and that doesn’t include a possible Davis handball. A tad
blinkered I feel.

Sometimes I feel like the way to be rewarded with big matches
its to have a terrible performance
There is no accountability whatsoever and its ridiculous. We
have seen it in Italy and Russia where referees have been
suspended. Why not in the UK?

It’s a stretch of the imagination to describe Freckleton as a
suburb of Preston

Disagree, Doowe. Freckleton to Preston city centre is a 15
minute drive. I’m pretty sure if Leigh was away on holiday
making small talk with a stranger and they asked where he was
from, he wouldn’t say Freckleton, he’d say Preston. There’s
absolutely no doubt the majority of Leigh’s acquaintances in his
area would be Preston fans. It’s just totally unnecessary
scheduling, and IMHO vastly unfair on Leigh.
Refs are just humans, we all think similar, if a Preston game
was 0-0 going into injury time and there was a collision in the
opposition penalty area that could go either way, I find it hard
to believe that in the back of Leigh’s mind he wouldn’t
subconsciously wonder whether he’d be opening himself up to
accusations of bias should he award them a dubious pen.
Genuinely believe it’s very unfair on Leigh, also arguably
unfair on Preston.
I’m aware not all will agree, but the human mind is a strange
beast and I stand by my belief that it’s unnecessary stress and
pressure to place on a ref
