What are the parents of autistic children meant to do - wear a
T-shirt saying my child is autistic or perhaps have it tattooed
on the child's forehead once they get formally diagnosed? Maybe
she could have taken out an advert in the program - "I'm here
tonight with an autistic child - here's a photo of us so you
know what he looks like". Why on earth would she be mentioning
it to the press or anyone else BEFORE Ronaldo's disgraceful
conduct? I ask simply as the mother of a child who was diagnosed
as autistic at the age of 16 months old... [emoji34]
[/quote]
Of course they shouldn't, but it has nothing to do with this. It
was the parent has created a story BECAUSE her son has autism
and was the one who brought it up. We know the media love a
story, particularly if one involves a famous footballer. If the
son wasn't autistic would the story have created as much
coverage? Of course it wouldn't.
Why can't the parent accept the apology and the offer a new
phone - why do they think they deserve more than that?
EDIT- in response to Jack Samuel as I don't know how to quote
two separate posts.
Why should he be banned? Of course he can be criticised. But
what gives people the right to stick a phone in someone's face
like that - celebrity or not. I wouldn't like it!
All he has done is knock a phone out of a kid's hand. Are people
on here really saying that they haven't done something to
someone in the heat of a moment? I would say everyone has

I tell you if I did that I would be fired instantly. As a
professional footballer, especially someone like Ronaldo you
should expect to be filmed while on a and leaving the football
pitch/ ground

Have you ever dealt with an autistic child? I'll assume not by
your lack of understanding. It has everything to do with this.
The impact can very far reaching when the child is autistic.
When my son was about 5/6 a supply teacher told him at school
that he had worked his socks off, it took myself and his school
over 6 months to finally convince him that it had been a
compliment about how hard he had worked in that particular
lesson and that the supply teacher wasn't accusing him of taking
his socks off in class. The supply teacher must have apologised
to him a thousand times over for using the expression - he
couldn't accept the apology because he didn't understand why the
teacher had said what she had. He spent those 6 months
obsessing over the fact that he had his socks on, literally
showing his teachers every 5 mins that he was wearing them, same
at home showing me he was wearing his socks. It kept him awake
at night, me too as if he was awake so was I, he got very
tearful when trying to get him dressed for school because of his
socks. A simple compliment, not worded correctly for his
understanding and due to his literal thinking caused 6 months of
stress and heartache for my son, his school and the supply
teacher who said it. My son is classed as high functioning but
can go into a meltdown at seemingly the slightest thing because
of his literal black & white view of the world. Silly little
things like shoes - he will only wear the exact same shoes,
thankfully his feet don't grow any more but like all of us he
wears his shoes out and if I don't buy the exact same shoes he
won't wear them, end of story for him. Thankfully his choice of
shoe is the simple lace up canvas shoe (like plimsolls) so
likely to stay around for many years yet, even so I have about
30 pairs stashed away at the back of my cupboard, just in case!
My other kids would have taken the compliment or if they didn't
understand it was a compliment they'd have asked, accepted my
explanation and the teachers apology for the misunderstanding
and it would have been done & dusted. It took about 2 weeks
before we could even work out where his sudden obsession with
his socks still being on his feet came from, he wasn't able to
verbalise it.
Neither of us know exactly how this kid has dealt with the
aftermath, only his mother will know that, she is the one having
to deal with it but I certainly have empathy with her and what
utter carnage she might now be facing, having been there, done
that and got the T-shirt on far too many occasions since my son
was born. Don't assume he has the mental capacity to understand
the apology, don't assume it all makes sense to him, don't
assume he knows this was an utterly stupid, hopefully one off,
reaction and don't assume he is not still trying to process it
all.
It was not the parent that created the story - it was Ronaldo by
his conduct. Don't blame the victim, blame the person who caused
the issue in the first place and that was not the young lad
involved or his mother, it's the famous footballer who thinks he
can do whatever he likes, whenever he likes then smile sweetly
and say sorry and it will all be forgiven and forgotten.

I’m not blaming the victim - far from it! Ronaldo has done wrong
everyone knows that including himself - hence why he has
apologised and offered financial compensation with a new phone.
I don’t condone his actions nor have I ever condoned them in
either of my posts thus far. When I was at university I used to
be a support person for people with learning difficulties and
special needs so whilst it might not be autism directly I do
have some first hand knowledge.
I am trying to explain why Ronaldo did what he did. Despite his
celebrity status he does have the right to try abs hide his face
from a camera if he wants to. I feel sorry for the kid who is
the innocent party in all this. All I’m saying is this wouldn’t
even be in the public eye if his mother 1. Hadn’t gone to the
papers; 2. Someone revealing the kid was autistic, which the
mother has now jumped on in order to drag the story out a lot
longer. His mother should also be teaching him why it’s not ok
to stick a phone in someone’s face like that and She shouldn’t
be using his autism as an excuse to try and get more financial
reward out of Ronaldo.
But the things people will do for any kind of exposure …

The kid had his phone facing down apparently, according to media
reports, not up in his face - several around him with their
phones held high, many of whom filmed the incident, because they
were filming him, and put it on social media. It was in the
public domain before she said anything, the press had picked it
up from Twitter. It was already trending on Twitter and on media
outlets before the kid was even identified. She may well have
come forward and said yes it was my son but the press already
had it by that stage. They'd got it before the kids phone had
even hit the floor - did you not notice all the press
photographers there snapping away? You are making a lot of
assumptions about the mother and that is so wrong, there is NO
blame on her at all. Stop blaming her - you say you're not but
your negative comments about her say the exact opposite. She is
understandably upset and dealing with the impact on her son,
whatever that might be, along with media attention she is not
used to. Have you seen the photos of the bruising on the kids
hand? That is assault, no ifs or buts about it. Had you or I
done that to him, we'd have been, quite rightly, carted off down
to the police station instantly.
There is only 1 person in the wrong here & no you haven't
condoned his behaviour at all, but you are making a lot more of
a fuss about the mother than you have about his actions. Actions
he did in front of several press photographers and hundreds of
supporters. There is no explanation for what he did, there is no
excuse for what he did. Blaming the mother and not just the one
and only person who is to blame for any of this is why people
like him think they can get away with this behaviour...

There have been incidents like Carragher throwing a coin back
into the crowd or Hazard's tussle with the Swansea ball boy,
which were during a match and sanctioned by the referee at the
time. Ronaldo's behaviour here was just after the match had
finished, but it would seem fair to consider an equivalent ban
as if he had been sent off. It's very sad for the youngster,
hope the experience doesn't put him off going to football for
good.

Ronaldo has announced tonight the loss of his newborn son. The
baby's twin sister has survived. Absolutely tragic &
heartbreaking for any parent. [emoji174]
