Madness-Wouldn’t be surprised to see a points deduction for the
pitch.
26 wickets fell on the first day and we didn’t even complete
four sessions in the match!
Chelmsford has always produced sub standard surfaces and
anything less than a very poor pitch grading from the match
referee will be frowned on.
Seen the pitch on the highlights and looks like a clay road.
Disgraceful really
I couldn’t believe the footholes that were there from the off..
they looked like huge pot holes you would see on any uk road!
Not the first time lancs have done this to Essex, remember when
they only got 20 something

Somerset are serial offenders for producing dodgy wickets at
Taunton…
They did that to Essex IIRC to stop them winnning the title?
Unfortunately poor surfaces are common place these days… high
time the ECB got to grips with this and sanctioned accordingly.

Big games in the Division One relegation battle for Richard
Kettleborough and Russell Warren, Ben Debenham and Paul Pollard,
Ian Blackwell and James Middlebrook.
Huge games in the Division Two promotion race for Nick Cook and
Rob Bailey at Worcestershire v Middlesex and Paul Baldwin and
Tom Lungley at Sussex Vs Glamorgan.
Mark Newell and Neil Pratt also have promotion riding on their
game at Nottinghamshire but it would take a miracle for them to
not be promoted regardless of the result.
Nick Cook’s game between Worcestershire and Middlesex is also
likely to be his last as he has reached the retirement age of
66. He is standing with his former Northamptonshire team-mate
Rob Bailey.

I hope the pitches produced are up to standard as we end the
season.

You are correct that it was Nick Cook’s last game, i dont
believe he has reached retirement age, but do know all the
travel etc has caught up with him and he has decided enough is
enough, sad to hear as he has always been the most enthusiastic
of umpires and has been very unlucky not to make international
panels. Speaking with a few umpires on the circuit over the
season there are many very weary after the pandemic and with all
the travelling.
Yes he stood with Rob Bailey, his mate, generally the retiring
official is asked with whom he would like to stand with in his
final game.
That is two gone from this years list, after Tim Robinson took
up an umpiring mentors role mid season.
Wishing Nick a happy retirement.
