How many times does the same thing need to be said, it comes up
every single time Taylor gets a Manchester team, certainly when
it is in a big game? Your postcode is now 100% irrelevant to
the appointing process, it is purely based on who you support.
And quite rightly as people don't just support their local clubs
as used to be more the case, they often support clubs nowhere
near where they currently live.
Have to agree on the local clubs thing, i support a team 130
miles from where i live and have never
Moved from my county. Some people move for their job and still
support the team whete they used to live, i think mr moss and mr
friend are examples of this.
And Mark Halsey before them, lived in Bolton but supported QPR.

I agree I have no interest in the most local team to where I
live now or where I was born
No doubt some people will look at and use the location of the
referees as an excuse if they make a perceived bad decision
Would be interesting to see if Jarred Gillett is ever appointed
to an english team in european games/ national team once he gets
his fifa badge(Should be next) considering he is Australian
He won't because he will be an English FA nominated referee and
he is employed, managed and remunerated by a company that has
the English FA as a significant shareholder.
Thats the same then as Chris Kavanagh being part of the
Manchester FA is it not?
To reiterate, again, where you live has zero impact on what
teams you referee in England. I don't really understand why you
are finding this concept so difficult to understand when you
have been told by multiple people about it.
Of course it is different for FIFA appointments, as a referee is
listed as being from the national association that nominated
them. So you are hardly going to see "Jared Gillett (England)"
listed as a referee for England vs Spain or Liverpool vs Real
Madrid. Whereas for domestic games they don't even publish
where the officials are from anymore, and the vast majority of
supporters won't have a clue where a referee is from. Their
home town used to be listed in the programme, and even appeared
as a caption on MoTD, but that hasn't been done for years now.
In fact Gillett is probably the perfect argument against the old
postcode rule, I think I am right in saying when he first moved
to England he lived in Liverpool as was a PHD student at the
University there (and may still be), yet presumably has no
connection to either Liverpool based teams so why should he be
barred from refereeing them. It would have been similar for me,
I moved to London in my early 20s but grew up in and support a
Yorkshire based team. Under the old rules I would have been
banned from refereeing all London based teams (had I made it to
that level obviously), yet I could have refereed Leeds,
Bradford, Rotherham, Doncaster, Sheffield United, etc. The old
system was an absolute nonsense.
I am not finding it hard to understand at all and do not believe
that the location of where an official is from will have any
impact at all over their ability to fairly referee a match.
Gillett actually has never been involved in liverpool games, but
I think this is just down to Riley. Equally Gillett is from
Australia so should it not say Jarred Gillett(Australia) even if
he is with the English FA?

No because he is nominated to FIFA by England and would fill one
of England's quotas. Just as if Anthony Taylor relocated to
Australia and they nominated him for FIFA it would say "Anthony
Taylor (Australia)".

Norwich v Burnley might be quite a challenging match; good it's
in a safe pair of hands.
It could well be a challenging game for Oliver after he returns
from refereeing Leipzig v Atalanta in the Europa League
Thursday. Hope he does well in both. I see Tierney is VAR for
the EL game.
Good luck to Taylor in the top of the PL clash.

If I was someone like Gillett, I would not want to referee
England at a major tournament even if it was allowed. Imagine
coming back to referee in the English leagues if you were
involved in a controversy like the Sol Campbell disallowed goal
at Euro 2004. At least if a referee is involved in a big
controversy in club football they can be kept away from that
team for a while, like Clattenburg was for Everton between 2007
and 2012. But you couldn't do that with every club.
I also think that's sort of the point of international football
- even if the Champions League final is Liverpool V Chelsea or
whatever, I wouldn't want an English referee in charge.

Taylor has already done many big games involving the Manchester
clubs and usually been excellent, so I don't know why it's even
a question.
I think this is the first time Gillett has been a VAR for one of
the two Liverpool clubs, so hopefully this will be the start of
his involvement in their fixtures.

Actually it appears as if Andy Madley and Jarred Gillett have
swapped. Gillett on VAR for Villa vs Spurs and Madley for
Everton vs Man United

Just to clarify
Mr Taylor not only supports Altrincham but is also resident in

Mr Taylor can and does referee Manchester and Merseyside clubs
with impunity.
Being a bit of a map nerd though, it has prompted me to look up
Altrincham, a place hitherto I have never visited. Historically
in the County Palatine of Chester, local re-organisation put it
in the Metropolitan District of Trafford in Greater Manchester,
apparently to the displeasure of many Altrincham residents. If I
were a denizen of Altrincham I think I would favour being
regarded as part of the County Palatine, no disrespect to
Cottonopolis intended of course.
Therefore that leads me to wondering whether Mr Taylor is
affiliated to Cheshire FA or Manchester FA ? Another little
task for me to look up unless someone can enlighten me first.
