Absolutely no surprises that the big games at the top and bottom
go to the two best referees. Although Oliver being a newcastle
fan makes it surprising that he is appointed to a big game at
the bottom
Although I don't think it will affect anything as Neither
support Manchester teams and I am not questioning the integrity
of the referees but having 2 referees from
Manchester in this game is asking for controversy
There aren't any referees from Manchester on it. One is from
Altrincham, one from Wigan.
Actually that's who they support, not where they're from.

Anthony Taylor lives within 10 mins of Old Trafford- should be
close enough to not referee Manchester teams. Chris Kavanagh is
even more questionable, it it any different to how English
refereees won't referee english teams in europe?

I don't know where he is based now but certainly a few years ago
Paul Tierney hailed from Wigan.

Another change in appointments, no doubt due to the much
depleted pool of SG1 as opposed to the old National List, is
that the geographical area a referee is deemed to come from in
avoiding a clash with a club has narrowed considerably and I
believe may now be reckoned as by postcode. In the old days it
was much more on a county basis so a Yorkshire team playing a
London team would not tend to have a referee from either
Yorkshire or London. Derby matches from the same county might
though have had a referee from that county.
Obviously if a referee declares support for a certain team they
are excluded from refereeing that team or a match which might
materially affect the fortunes of that team ie relegation
battles.

Yep, as I posted, before being told it was wrong.

Why? He doesn't support either team or any of their rivals, nor
does he live anywhere near the ground. He doesn't even live in
Manchester.
The post code rule was done away with 5/6 years ago so where
referees live is irrelevant to what teams and which grounds they
can referee at.

There is no postcode rule. The rule on living distance in
proximity to grounds was scrapped at least 5/6 years ago. It has
zero relevance as has been pointed out a million times on here
over the years. The only thing of relevance is if they or a
close family member supports a team, works for a team or plays
for a team eg for the academy team.

Not hating on Scott here, but why oh why are referees who, let's
be honest, don't have much of a future in SG1 (or at least
wouldn't if we had some competent management in charge),
continue to pick up decent matches, when you have the likes of
Gillett sitting in Stockley Park (yet again). It makes no sense
to me!

He’s hardly had any games never mind “top matches”. He’s only
had about 3 games on TV as well

Postcode rule was abolished. Its now entirely based on who the
referee supports.
