Tranmere v Carlisle Mr Breakspeare

Both sets of supporters slating Mr Breakspeare on the BBC site.
9 yellows, 2 straight reds for Tranmere (wonder what Mike Dean
thinks!) and both managers seemingly booked for failing to
control their players

It appears six yellow cards were issued after the red card to
MacDonald resulted in a mass brawl.
I’m sure both sides will be in the headmasters office at the FA
for disciplinary charges.
I’d prefer bmb to deal with them as she would be a much better
disciplinarian than what is dished out from the authorities, for
these silly petulant brawls that are frequenting the game far
too often.

office..!
Seriously though, yes put me in charge of discipline, I'd soon
sort them out and there'd be no more whining going on!

Managers shown a YC following a bust up. There's nothing like a
nice relaxing game of football on a Saturday afternoon! [emoji1]

So take out 6 YC for idiotic behaviour and you are left with 2R
and 3Y.
Tbh the angle on Quest was not good for the first challenge,
definitely high intensity and some playing of the ball? Id like
to have a reverse angle on that one.
The high boot was very dangerous, not one we see often
thankfully, but felt red was correct.
We didnt get to see the confrontation so cannot assess if 6YC
was good management or not.

As promised...
The game was fairly uneventful from a refereeing perspective
prior to the first red card. No cards had been issued at all,
which was unusual for this official. The most obvious YC in
Rovers favour, he chose to play an advantage instead, which came
to nothing, but as a 2 on 2, albeit some distance from goal was
probably fair to let play proceed.
The RC against Macdonald on 40 minutes was a strong challenge
where he went to ground, won the ball but made contact with the
player in the follow-through. Fairly similar to the McTominay
one yesterday, save for the ball-winning bit. Didn't see it
clearly at the ground, but the clips I've seen since show enough
features to put a red into the equation. Here I felt Mr
Breakspear's game management let him down badly. Once he'd
ensured the injured player received treatment, he should have
sent Macdonald off immediately, but it was coming up to after a
minute after the incident, in which he'd had his ear bent by
players of both sides, before the red card was brandished.
Mellor the tackled Carlisle player was still rolling around and
Macdonald stopped to touch and say something to him. whether to
ask about his welfare or tell him to get up, can't say, with
hindsight he should have just walked. Probably because their
team-mate was still on the ground at this stage, though he was
fit enough to resume and play the rest of the game, this
provoked an angry reaction from the Carlisle players and a
series of scuffles broke out. When things calmed down, the
referee, who had consulted with the 4O, Scott Simpson, wandered
around dishing cards out. Don't know how much input each had,
but the cards seemed random, one of the main culprits on the
Rovers side Peter Clarke escaped. Neither manager left the
dug-out save Simpson helped a steward who had fallen over, if
either had gone onto the pitch suspect that would have inflamed
things further, so why the yellow cards for them?
The second RC for Morris looked incredibly harsh. It's very rare
that you see a red for a high boot, this was one where Morris
had gone for the ball, the Carlisle player had come on his
blindside and got struck in his upper body area with the boot.
The AR nearest the incident apparently told Mellon that it was a
free-kick to Rovers, guess he was as surprised as the rest of
us when the red appeared. I don't have an issue if officials
want to make high foot a red line, but some ten minutes earlier
Rovers' Chris Merrie got a boot in his head area where the
opponent had a much clearer view of him yet all Mr Breakspear
did was award a free-kick. He needs to take on board how bad
that inconsistency appears; if he'd treated the Carlisle player
to a red, then Morris might have thought twice before going for
the ball with a raised boot.
Post-match, Micky Mellon who is not routinely critical of
officials said he'd not seen a performance like it during his
time in the game. While I wouldn't concur, the game became
mostly about the referee yesterday and it is never a good thing
when that happens.

I always thought Charles Breakspeare was a very safe pair of
hands in National List circles and was a possibility for
promotion.

Both Tranmere appeals against the red cards rejected and another
collector's item with Kieron Morris getting an extra game for a
'frivolous' appeal.
Surprised an appeal was lodged as they were not 'clearly wrong'
