QPR v Peterborough - David Webb

I only switched on for the last 20 minutes purely out of
schadenfreude having seen the score on BBC, but there was a very
interesting incident which I wonder if anyone else spotted or
wished to comment on?
Clarke-Harris for Peterborough picked up a leg injury and really
couldn't continue but had to stay on as all three subs had
already been made. He then headed the ball innocuously and went
down holding his head and after a lengthy break was subsequently
replaced as a concussion substitute. Not sure who makes the
assessment/decision or what sway the referee has in these
situations but it's clear to me that Peterborough bent the rules
in their favour, not that they needed to.

Sounds highly suspicious to me unless, during the lengthy break
for his leg injury, somebody craftily substituted the ball with
a medicine ball. [emoji1]

It does sound like somethings not quite right there however it’s
very dangerous territory for a referee to start getting involved
in the decision over whether a player is concussed!

I have not seen this, but if it is "as reported" by takethejag,
then it goes to show to what lengths professional football teams
will go to bend the letter of the law and kick a hole through
the spirit of the law to secure an advantage.
Expert plenty more of the same if/when temporary substitutions
for HIAs are brought into football.
No referee will be in a position to dispute / deny the "head
injury" and it will quickly become commonplace.

I haven't managed to see a replay myself, but the commentators
made reference to it live. To me, it was quite farcical how
Clarke-Harris went down holding his head after such an innocuous
looking header and no head contact with the opposition
player(s). It feels like it had been pre-planned and looked
staged.
Peterborough Today in their match report have suggested 'game
management' and a random fan forum I came across also makes
reference to it

As others have said, it would be dangerous territory for a
referee (who isn't medically trained) to start making a ruling
as to what is/isn't concussion. I do hope this ruling isn't
going to be abused as an excuse to make an extra substitution
for tactical or 'other injury' reasons.

As a frequent attender of Peterborough matches I would add that
this was not the only instance of 'game management' by them in
this match. There was time-wasting on an industrial scale once
they took the lead. Pleasingly David Webb dealt with it by
cautioning the captain and adding a copious amount of stoppage
time. This type of behaviour has increased at Peterborough
since the Grant McCann regime replaced the previous one.
Although one might argue that there were seldom many
opportunities to waste time prior to that.
