Excellent first half by Attwell and his team he has given the
game a chance kept his cards in his pocket would have liked to
see him clamp down when he was surrounded but nonetheless a
excellent first half

Apart from not giving Azpilicueta a yellow for a cynical foul
that broke up a promising attack.

Disagree with Tyler / Neville, Attwell struggled (a bit) in the
first half IMO:
7’ - correct freekick given by Daniel Cook, a warning to
Azpilicueta for demanding his opponent be cautioned would have
been optimal but okay
21’ - correct / supportable freekick for charging-tripping
incident on the edge of the box
24’ - key game mgmt moment and Attwell failed; correct decision
would be freekick to Chelsea, caution to Keita for reckless
striking/SPA impeding, further caution to Liverpool for
blatant(!!) mobbing; instead, no cards and a freekick for
Liverpool…
27’ - correct play on after penalty appeal for handling
36’ - potential caution for LoR holding by Kanté, tbh for such a
blatant offence I’d prefer a card
38’ - correct two consecutive play on calls with clear gestures
39’ - Azpilicueta’s second SPA-ish deliberate foul (after 9’);
Attwell warns him only to calm down the temperature of the game;
quite a distant impression, doesn’t really connect with him
43’ - after supportable / correct play on call, blatant and wild
dissent by Robertson, completely ignored by the officials(!);
terrible image for football and referees at all ages, sorry
44’ - correct play on, no deliberate pass to the goalkeeper
offence
45’ - good onside by Daniel Cook after crossover scene
-> Attwell wasn’t too bad, and managed to stay out of focus in
an exciting 1H of football; however, to me it’s clear that he
wasn’t in control of the player’s actions and will struggle in
the 2H if the going gets much tougher; in the half’s key scene
(24’), unfortunately, he simply failed tbh :/

Keira’s undetected studs foul (59’) is verrry close to SFP, but
given his leg just quite wasn’t fully ‘loaded’ (rather clumsy
uncoordinated action trying to control the ball), YC would have
been the right call. Poor play on call though, Attwell didn’t
assess the duel right at all.

Correct VAR call for offside against Van Dijk for interference
with James as the ball was crossed in to Mane.
Also good to see Attwell being sent to the monitor to validate
what VAR thought.

Personally think he’s been absolutely superb so far , showing a
lot of feel for the game and excellent management rather than
robotically flashing cards , brilliant refereeing totally
deserving of the appointment.

Forgetting all the nit pickers on this site, I think Stuart has
contributed greatly to one of the best 0-0 games I have seen for
a very long time.
A very mature and sensible performance…..so far.

well he has fully justified his appointment

My only complaint with that was when he got it calmed down the
first time & that idiot came storming in and got involved
starting it up again was that idiot not getting booked as well.
Excellent performance from him and his team.
