Mr Mather did the TRFC v Swindon game last Tuesday. Early YC for
Tom Davies seemed to take the sting out of the game. A bad late
challenge on Dacres-Cogley towards the end wasn't suppressed
quickly resulting in the fouled player reacting and then
scuffles involving both benches. The original foul was penalised
by a YC couldn't be sure it deserved worse, while a RC shown to
one of the Swindon coaching staff. Both sides facing a charge of
failing to control players as a result of the afters. Fairly
neutral view on this showing, plenty to learn but have seen far
worse this season.

I've not seen the action, but would presume that with 12 yellows
and a red the thing that has gone wrong is player behaviour!!!

From the brief highlights, he seemed to get all three penalty
calls wrong.

I recall his "mishandling" of last season's National League
Play-off Final at Ashton Gate when Torquay were on the wrong end
of some poor decisions allowing Hartlepool to progress back into
the League.

Oh that ref , I was at that Final. Torquay has a perfectly good
goal disallowed.............shocking

Torquay to then see the referee promoted when he clearly wasn’t
good enough.

Hackett is beyond a parody of himself - he hasn't even watched
the match and feels qualified to give his comment anyway! :D
I note some of the previous comments here, but thirteen cautions
and one ejection doesn't necessarily mean that a referee had a
poor performance. Redouane Jiyed from Morocco issued exactly the
same number in an AFCON tie a few weeks ago (though admittedly
that went to ET), and it was a very (very) good performance IMO
in a challenging match. If anything, Jiyed could have shown a
couple more deserved yellows to be honest!
In Italy they have, amongst others, the excellent Luca Marelli;
in Poland, Zbigniew Przesmycki is a genuine 'refereeing genius',
and other countries have good experts about refereeing too,
giving their reasoned opinions in the media. Why, oh why, do we
have to suffer the inane ramblings of Hackett, Halsey (though
the latter is a bit better) here instead.

Chris Gallagher the author of the article says: You can
understand Hackett’s point here and both sets of fans are sure
to have been frustrated at the official from Saturday.
However, the players didn’t make it easy for Mather, and
sometimes it’s easy to look at the official instead of blaming
the players who did commit plenty of foul and tried to pressure
him.

Because the media love clickbait, and Hackett provides exactly
that, he can usually be relied on to say something controversial
on refereeing matters, the average ref bashing football fan
usually laps this stuff up. What often gets forgotten is that
Hacketts time in charge of PGMOL had many of the same issues
that Riley has had, it wasn’t the golden era, he and his media
mates make out it was. Its a shame, I think this country is
really lacking an insightful refereeing pundit.
