Colchester Vs Swindon

Just caught the highlights incl 2 red cards! Busy afternoon for
the officials.
Looks like the Colchester goalkeeper stamped on the Swindon
player in the goal area.
Second red card, I'm surprised this wasn't given as a penalty as
there was a second foul by Chambers in very quick succession
inside the area just after the first one outside the area?

Attacker was late on GK who kicked him - gr8 spot by AR.
2nd one - surely grounds for appeal 😏
How was the attacker, who did not have the ball, in an obvious
goal scoring position?
Where as wait a milli-second and its a penalty and definite red
card?

Could argue if he waited a second... it would be a genuine
attempt to play the ball for the second foul inside the area
which is a DOGSO? Penalty / yellow?

One of my frustrations! If you look at the free kick after the
second red, how far back is the wall? The ball is virtually on
the line, so it shouldn't be too hard to work out. Ref's do seem
to struggle to count to 10. why?

Personally I can tell you how far 10 yards is but I can't tell
you how far 9.14m is despite it being the exact same distance.
Complete mental block. I remember when I was a young ref in
training we were taught to walk 10 yards back & forth several
times and count out how many steps it took us - my short stumpy
legs it was I think 14 steps for me, one of the tall lads it was
half that. I did find though sometimes I would instinctively
take a bigger step than those I had practiced when in game which
would totally throw me because I'd know 14 steps would be too
far. Are you meant to now do 9 steps instead of 10?
*Rhetorical! Maybe I'm not the only one who gets stumped by the
distance conversion.

The only other circle red I’ve seen this season is Harrington…
Who else uses it?

Surprising how badly it is regularly done at the top level. When
training refs, I’ve often asked them to practise the wall, then
pulled out a string of the exact distance - refs often at least
2 yards short. It’s at least 10 paces of most refs without
exaggerated paces.
Always mostly surprised why refs don’t use the clues there for
them. For example, a FK one yard from front of D on edge of area
= wall one yard from penalty spot. 2 yards from corner arc = 2
yards from the 10yard marker. Doesn’t need pacing. Can often
clearly see from stand / TV that the distance is wrong.
The grass can also be a clue. The stripes can often be a regular
distance - often 6 yards ( fills goal area ) - so use that to
help.

I agree with the comments regarding distances of walls. They
are frequently too close. It's easy to work out how many paces
you take to walk ten yards: start on the centre spot and walk to
the centre circle counting as you go. it takes me eleven paces
and I am above average height. The number of people for whom
ten yards equals ten paces must be quite small. I always walk
eleven paces when setting a wall. Apart from the accuracy it
seems to have the added benefit of upsetting anyone who is
counting. :)
