Some contentious issues in L2:
Northampton v Forest Green - how Marc Edwards and his AR could
think that the ball crossed the line for FG's goal, I don't
know, and it didn't look anywhere near being over the line
Stevenage v Sutton - Paul Howard was wrong to award Sutton a
penalty as the tackle was clean and clearly got the ball rather
than the man
Port Vale v Swindon - full marks to the oft-maligned Andy Haines
for sending off the Swindon goalie for planting his studs in a
PV player's midriff. The goalie was coming for a cross but with
his leg raised, hence the studs in the midriff of the player who
was challenging him for the cross. That is sometimes seen but
not always punished, and I was pleased that Andy issued a
straight red for SFP.
On Quest on Saturday night, they concluded that the ball was
over the line at Northampton, as you couldn't actually see it
until it emerged in front of the 'keeper. I couldn't help but
agree with them.
OK, bias, but Northampton claimed that what could be seen over
the line was their goalie's arm rather than the ball. I'm not
disputing that the ball may have been over the line, just that
Marc Edwards and the AR on the far side were hardly in good
positions to see whether it had crossed the line. And officials
should never guess an outcome, should they?!
If neither of them could see it what is the alternative to
guessing? Abandoning the match?
No, not giving the goal, that's the alternative. It does happen
from time to time.
We don't know they guessed, though. The assistant might have
been able to see where the ball was from his position.

A little strange as that is a new ground so surprised it doesn't
have undersoil heating.

When they moved to their new ground they were playing in League
Two, the fourth tier of English football.

In other words guess that a goal wasn't scored. That is my
point. Any decision made in circumstances where no official can
see is a guess. It may be an educated one, it may be the
decision that attracts the least flak on the field of play in
order to make the rest of the game as manageable as possible,
but a guess it remains. To say that officials should never
guess is wrong. There is sometimes no alternative.

Yes, I realised that after posting. Some non-EPL clubs have
decided to install under soil heating though even though they
didn't need to. Whether they use it or not is unknown though,
Sheffield Wednesday have it but had a game called off last
season and it emerged they can't afford to turn it on.

Undersold heating is a waste of money at League 1 level.
Shrewsbury didn't install it at new ground on basis of most
games where it would be needed surrounding areas of stadium
would call game off. Didn't warrant operating costs. Shrewsbury
moved in 2007 and only lost 1 game to frost so far at new
ground.

My team (Portsmouth) had Scott Oldham on Saturday and have James
Oldham on Tuesday.
Forgive my ignorance but are they related or is this just a
bizarre coincidence ?
I believe they are brothers, sons of Barry, a former referee

This has been asked before...
Scott Oldham is Barry Oldham's son; they both originate from
Poulton-le-Fylde near to Blackpool.
James Oldham (no relation) is from Derbyshire.
Neither of them are related to former Yorkshire fast bowler
Steve Oldham or, indeed, Oldham Athletic!

Do any of them have an involvement with the well known car
