SG2 Gavin Ward for the local derby, Crewe v Shrewsbury. I may
well be there. Marc Edwards with 3rd v 1st, Northampton v Forest
Green in L2.
I think Gavin Ward may well be advised not to point to the
centre after the ball ends up in the net if his intention is to
disallow a goal and give a free kick for a foul on the goalie. I
had heard the whistle and knew what his intentions were, but the
1000+ Shrews contingent certainly weren't and I think we could
have had problems when they realised that their team had not
taken an early lead and their celebrations were being cut
short. Other than that, I thought Gavin performed quite well in
a game which was mediocre at best and utter garbage for most of
the time. [emoji37]

Natalie Aspinall was one of the assistants at Tranmere,
replacing Thomas Harty

Were you at the game TVOS? If so thoughts on Mr Toner today?
I was. It was good to be back, despite the result.
Never really noticed him, to be honest, which is a good sign.
There wasn't really that much for him to get involved with.
It was clear from the off that one team hadn't played for 28
days (and had lost three of their main players since their last
game), while the other had played several times in the same
period.
Hopefully we can add some new recruits this week, which the
manager seems to be indicating we will do.

The free-kick against Hemmings after he'd apparently been
elbowed didn't go down well with the home support, though I
couldn't judge if there'd been something else first.
You'd have been better placed to assess the second half Rochdale
penalty claims Mr Toner turned down.
On another day you might have come away from something from the
game.

I can't recall the Hemmings' incident and neither of our penalty
shouts had much merit for me.

Some contentious issues in L2:
Northampton v Forest Green - how Marc Edwards and his AR could
think that the ball crossed the line for FG's goal, I don't
know, and it didn't look anywhere near being over the line
Stevenage v Sutton - Paul Howard was wrong to award Sutton a
penalty as the tackle was clean and clearly got the ball rather
than the man
Port Vale v Swindon - full marks to the oft-maligned Andy Haines
for sending off the Swindon goalie for planting his studs in a
PV player's midriff. The goalie was coming for a cross but with
his leg raised, hence the studs in the midriff of the player who
was challenging him for the cross. That is sometimes seen but
not always punished, and I was pleased that Andy issued a
straight red for SFP.

On Quest on Saturday night, they concluded that the ball was
over the line at Northampton, as you couldn't actually see it
until it emerged in front of the 'keeper. I couldn't help but
agree with them.

OK, bias, but Northampton claimed that what could be seen over
the line was their goalie's arm rather than the ball. I'm not
disputing that the ball may have been over the line, just that
Marc Edwards and the AR on the far side were hardly in good
positions to see whether it had crossed the line. And officials
should never guess an outcome, should they?!

Absolutely not, if that's what they did. For all we know, the
assistant might have seen a split second of the ball over the
line.

My team (Portsmouth) had Scott Oldham on Saturday and have James
Oldham on Tuesday . Forgive my ignorance but are they related or
is this just a bizarre coiincidence ?

Co-incidence I'm told. Not sure whether they've ever been out
together at Oldham [emoji3]

Unrelated. Scott is up Durham way. James is/was the director of
the CORE program at Derbyshire FA
